The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at University is a visionary and strategic academic leader responsible for the overall academic, administrative, and financial management of the faculty. This pivotal role involves ensuring the delivery of high-quality medical education that meets standards, fostering a vibrant research environment, promoting clinical excellence, and upholding the highest ethical and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Vision - Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Faculty of Medicine, aligning its goals with the overall mission and vision of University. - Develop and implement a robust strategic plan for the faculty, encompassing academic excellence, research advancement, clinical partnerships, and community engagement. - Enhance the Faculty's national and international reputation for medical education and research. - Foster a culture of innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continuous improvement within the faculty.
- Compliance & Accreditation (MMC & MOHE) - Ensure full compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and guidelines set forth by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE). This includes, but is not limited to : - Maintaining the Faculty's accreditation status with the MMC and MOHE for all medical programmes (e.g., MBBS, postgraduate programs). - Overseeing the preparation and submission of all required reports and documentation to the MMC and MOHE. - Ensuring adherence to student admission criteria, curriculum structure, teaching methodologies, assessment processes, and clinical training requirements as stipulated by MMC and MOHE. - Facilitating and leading all accreditation visits and reviews by MMC, MOHE, and other relevant regulatory bodies. - Implementing recommendations and addressing any deficiencies identified by accreditation bodies in a timely and effective manner. - Stay abreast of changes in national and international medical education standards and adapt Faculty operations accordingly.
- Government Bodies Management & External Relations - Serve as the primary liaison between the Faculty of Medicine and relevant governmental bodies, including the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). - Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in the healthcare industry, government agencies, professional bodies, and partner hospitals. - Represent the Faculty and University at national and international conferences, forums, and committees related to medical education and healthcare. - Explore and establish new collaborations and partnerships with other academic institutions, research centres, and healthcare providers.
- Management of Departments & Resources - Oversee the academic, administrative, and financial management of all departments within the Faculty of Medicine. - Ensure effective resource allocation, including human resources, financial budgets, facilities, and equipment, to support teaching, research, and clinical activities. - Develop and implement policies and procedures for the efficient operation of the faculty. - Monitor and evaluate the performance of departments and initiate improvements as needed.
- People Management & Development - Provide strong leadership and mentorship to Faculty members, administrative staff, and students. - Oversee the recruitment, retention, and development of highly qualified and diverse faculty and staff. - Foster a collegial, inclusive, and supportive work environment that promotes professional growth and well-being. - Implement effective performance management systems, including faculty evaluations, promotions, and recognition. - Encourage and support faculty engagement in research, scholarly activities, and continuous professional development.
- Curriculum Management & Academic Excellence - Lead the continuous review, development, and enhancement of the medical curriculum to ensure it meets national and international standards, addresses current healthcare needs, and prepares graduates for successful careers. - Ensure the delivery of high-quality medical education across all programmes, incorporating innovative teaching methodologies and technologies. - Oversee the design and implementation of effective assessment strategies that measure student competency and learning outcomes. - Promote interdisciplinary education and collaboration within the University's healthcare programs (e.g., dentistry, pharmacy, allied health sciences). - Champion student success by providing a supportive learning environment, addressing student concerns, and promoting opportunities for experiential learning and professional development. - Foster a vibrant research culture within the faculty, encouraging faculty and students to engage in high-impact research. - Secure funding and resources for research initiatives through grants, partnerships, and collaborations. - Enhance the visibility and impact of the faculty’s research output through publications and presentations. - Promote the translation of research findings into clinical practice and community health initiatives.
- Clinical Affairs & Patient Care - Oversee and ensure the quality of clinical training experiences for medical students in affiliated hospitals and clinical settings. - Maintain strong partnerships with clinical sites to ensure adequate bedside teaching opportunities and exposure to diverse patient populations. - Promote ethical and professional conduct in all clinical activities, upholding the highest standards of patient care.

A Ph.D. or equivalent.
