The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM’s Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Project Manager to lead IJM's strategic expansion into East Malaysia.

This role will oversee the design, implementation, and monitoring of East Malaysia initiatives aimed at reducing human trafficking and forced labor crimes, while ensuring alignment with IJM Malaysia’s national program goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of East Malaysian project activities in alignment with IJM’s vision, theory of change and regional forced labor strategy;
  • Develop and manage budget for grant and non-grant funded projects and be accountable for delivering projects against established goals, milestones and targets in a timely manner and within budget;
  • Project partnership management and coordination, including selecting partners, negotiating and monitoring agreements and activities for grant funded projects;
  • Thorough documentation, and where necessary internal and external communication, regarding Malaysia office activities, including team plans, meetings, events, and initiatives;
  • Supervise and mentor a project team in East Malaysia;
  • Provide vision, direction, and / or expert advice to Senior Program Manager on effective people and performance management of supervised staff;

Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation

  • Conduct assessment, strategic planning and program development related to IJM’s partnership with the Malaysian government and other stakeholders on anti-trafficking and anti-forced labor efforts, in alignment with Forced Labor Slavery strategy;
  • Develop and review appropriate strategies as well as implementation of plans that enable the office to achieve its IJM internal targets and any grant targets on time and within budget;
  • Undertake planning and implementation to ensure achievement of organizational strategy and objectives, including the development of proposals for further funding of the Malaysia program as needed;
  • Qualifications

  • At least four years’ field experience leading high-level policy advocacy; program management and design, M&E, data management; and / or casework interventions alongside government and non-government partners including international, national, and community organizations;
  • At least two years’ experience in managing field-based teams in program implementation, preferably in international development, human rights, or humanitarian assistance. Leadership experience in cross-cultural settings preferred;
  • Graduate degree in social work, law, economics, human rights, international development or closely related field; Master’s degree in relevant field is preferred;
  • Critical Qualities

  • Developed organizational and leadership skills, superior attention to detail, exceptional follow-through and accountability for results;
  • Disciplined with priorities, excellent time management and ability to work effectively under deadline pressures; proven ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks with competing demands under tight deadlines;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to exercise sound judgment, take initiative and produce results;
