Objectives of the Position

  • Deliver General Accounting & Reporting services to BASF Service Hub Kuala Lumpur (BSSCKL) customers in accordance with established Financial Reporting processes and guidelines, internal control requirements, and local legal and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure that timelines and quality meet the agreed service levels and targets.
  • Back up, assist with, and perform Financial Reporting tasks as required.

Main Tasks

  • Provide Financial Reporting transaction processing support with accuracy, completeness and timeliness on a daily basis.
  • Perform and analyze booking of accounting transactions and fixed asset transactions, master data maintenance, workings and account analysis.
  • Clearing of open items in accounts.
  • Execute month-end close steps in accordance with work instructions and month-end close checklist.
  • Prepare month-end, quarter-end, year-end and statutory financial reports for BASF companies across Asia Pacific, including group reporting, internal management reporting, statutory reporting, and any ad hoc reports (e.g., audit schedules, tax schedules).
  • Coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate closure of accounts.
  • Perform analytical review of profit and loss accounts and balance sheet, trend analysis, cost center checks and transaction posting checks.
  • Troubleshoot to resolve issues related to Financial Reporting processes.
  • Liaise with relevant stakeholders on Financial Reporting work issues and queries.
  • Initiate continuous improvement in operational areas.
  • Perform back-up function duties when required and participate in job rotation to other functional teams as needed.
  • Compliance

  • Participate in compliance audits and respond to audit queries.
  • Ensure work documentation and processes are updated and meet Internal Control Framework requirements in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with BASF policies & guidelines, Financial Reporting compliance requirements, and local statutory requirements.
  • Others

  • Assist and support the SDU Head, Senior Manager, Manager, Assistant Manager and Senior Analyst in project initiatives (e.g., Continuous Improvements, Technology Enhancement, Internal Control, Six Sigma, Scorecard).
  • Perform other duties as required by BSSCKL management and changing business needs.
  • Service Management

  • Work according to the service management framework, providing timely and accurate customer service.
  • Attend to and resolve customer queries promptly and proactively.
  • Review backlog and cycle time reports to improve process flow, and ensure workflows are processed within agreed service timelines.
  • Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement solutions for continuous improvement in consultation with the SDU Head and leadership team.
  • Update process documentation as required.
  • Knowledge Management

  • Support effective knowledge transfer within the team and contribute to training materials for General Accounting & Reporting.
  • Participate in functional training and contribute to a knowledge base of problems and resolutions for continuous learning and cross-sharing.
  • Support new and existing team members through proper knowledge transfer and sharing of best practices.
  • Guidance & Reporting

  • Follow BASF Group accounting and reporting guidelines and local regulations.
  • Cooperation

  • Frequent cooperation within BASF Group with internal stakeholders, SDU Head and regional finance units, and service centre management.
  • Frequent cooperation outside BASF with external consultants and auditors as applicable.
  • Education

  • University degree in finance and accounting or business studies; Chartered or Certified Professional Accountant or equivalent.
  • Working Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in Financial Reporting or other accounting functions (candidates with fewer years may be considered).
  • Preferably experience with SAP or other major ERP systems.
  • Experience in a shared service or BPO environment is advantageous.
  • Experience in a multinational company or Malaysian public-listed company is preferred.
  • Technical & Professional Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Financial Reporting and related accounting functions.
  • Proficiency with MS Office tools.
  • Proficiency in English and other languages as required, with good communication skills.
