Overview

Senior Aerospace Upeca manufactures and assembles build-to-print metallic structural components for the civil aerospace industry, with in-house NADCAP approved NDT and Treatment capabilities. Our strategic location, focus on technology investments and NADCAP processing capability make us highly competitive. We are a single source on almost all contracts, including content on A320, A330, A350 and B787 platforms. Products manufactured include machined ribs, titanium hinges, Leading Edge assemblies, machined brackets and various spigots with shot-peening, anodizing, electro-plating, prime and painting.

Responsibilities

  • To continuously review quality control processes, procedures and capabilities to sustain cost effective and efficient methods for meeting quality requirements and make recommendations for improvement as appropriate.
  • Review customer QC requirements and ensure that quality control documentation for a project meets contractual requirements.
  • Review and approve supplier and sub-contractors' quality control documentation to ensure their planned activities meet contractual requirements.
  • Coordinate and control the day-to-day operations of inspection personnel to provide a safe, secure and efficient working environment, ensuring all plant and equipment is safely operated.
  • Coordinate and control the day-to-day operations of inspection personnel to ensure physical resources are maintained, stored and organised to allow efficient and effective operation.
  • Develop, plan and coordinate internal configuration / product audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented by all parties.
  • Control and direct all QC resources, operations and facilities to adhere to project programmes.
  • Manage and direct a team of skilled, semi-skilled and technically based individuals through performance management, inductions, training needs identification, coaching and discipline.
  • Manage and control all quality control activities in accordance with identified Quality Assurance standards, company procedures, client specifications and contract requirements.
  • Support the Director, Quality and Engineering in discussions of technical details with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the working environment is maintained (free of oil, dust, chemicals, etc.).
  • Monitor and report quality control progress, notifying any predicted shortfalls or discrepancies against timescale and budgets.
  • Provide accurate and relevant information as required by the business.
  • Liaise with other department managers to ensure project contractual and quality requirements within the schedule are supported and maintained through all stages of manufacture.
  • Support the development of a customer-focused culture and the setting of quality goals and targets as part of the organisation’s strategic plan.
  • Assist in the production of generic and project-specific Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
  • Oversee the overall Control Plan, MSA and SPC development and periodic review with multitasking.
  • Maintain and update Quality Control procedures and work instructions; conduct annual reviews for applicability as part of APQP requirements for all programs.
  • Conduct staff appraisal, manpower requisition, candidate shortlisting and interviews for roles related to Quality Control.
  • Perform training needs analysis (TNA) for quality control functions and propose training nominations as required.
  • Develop and evaluate on‑the‑job training for personnel involved in quality control functions.
  • Establish quality control related KPI settings and conduct monthly KPI reviews with countermeasures if targets are not achieved.
  • Plan and manage budgets for process quality control (CAPEX / OPEX) to meet planned vs actual expenditure.
  • Participate in internal audits for Configuration / Product, NADCAP, QMS and EMS.

Requirements

  • Experience : Minimum 8 years in manufacturing, with 5+ years in a managerial role in any industry with a relevant engineering background; aerospace manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience in APQP activities (FMEA, Control Plan, MSA, PPAP, etc.) is preferred.
  • Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or recognized industrial certification equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Skills : High integrity with strong analytical and problem-solving skills; strong leadership; proficient in Microsoft Office; capable of independent work and team collaboration; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge : Deep understanding of International Quality Management Standards; hands-on experience in process improvement; NADCAP knowledge; SAP or similar systems experience.
  • Personal : Resourceful, proactive, dynamic; able to work under pressure; capable of planning, decision making and team-building.

  • Internal : CEO, Directors, Department Managers and executive staff
  • External : Suppliers, customers and regulatory bodies
  • What to expect

    Manage the QC section for smooth operation and coordinate all activities required to direct and control manufacturing quality. Review product quality requirements for individual customers and projects to ensure those requirements are understood and implemented to meet contract specifications. Provide technical support and expertise to manufacturing and supporting functions by interpreting customer requirements.
