Senior Economist (Data Scientist)

The Marketplace Lab team functions like an incubator for solutions to the problems confronting Grab's marketplaces. We seek to develop and test new ideas that lead to step-wise shifts in the efficiency and growth of our marketplaces. To do so, we prototype data science solutions for marketplace problems that continually recur, and work closely with product and business teams to experimentally validate them in our markets. We rely on a mix of strong marketplace understanding, business judgment, and technical competency to ideate, build and test new solutions. The solutions we build and the insights we learn fundamentally reshape Grab's marketplace strategy and operations so that we can leave a lasting, positive impact to consumers, drivers and merchants in Southeast Asia. Get to Know the Role

We are looking for a Data Scientist / Economist to join our Marketplace Strategy & Economics - Growth team. In this important role, you will use your knowledge in economics and data science to drive growth strategies across our marketplace.

You will be reporting to our Lead Economist (Data Scientist) and to be based in our Petaling Jaya office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will design and deploy sophisticated economic and econometric models to decode user behavior, predict market dynamics, and identify the most promising new levers for growth
• You will be a strategic partner to our Product, Engineering, Marketing teams. You will design, instrument, and analyze A / B tests and quasi-experiments that shape our global growth roadmap. Your work will provide the definitive "so what?" on the impact of our biggest bets
• You will lead research projects to answer big, ambiguous questions about our marketplace. Your insights on topics like network effects, user lifecycle value, and incentive structures will inform multi-year strategy
• You will act as domain authority on causal inference and measurement for Growth initiatives. You will ensure we make decisions based on a true understanding of cause and effect, not just correlation
• You will improve the team's technical bar by mentoring junior data scientists and economists, sharing your expertise, and pioneering new analytical methodologies and best practices
