AFRY is a leading international power sector consulting and engineering company. We are seeking a qualified and experienced Project Manager Substation to join our South-East Asia T&D team and be based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Our T&D team assists clients in achieving compliance and efficiency by conducting studies to navigate the design, grid connection and access standards for energy generation projects. You will be part of a global, tight-knit team of engineers engaged in diverse projects supporting multiple international interconnection and grid connection projects (solar, wind, hydro, etc.). The team also provides technical assistance to Transmission Grid Operators and helps the private sector secure crucial grid investments through expert technical support. The role offers a unique opportunity to develop your career and shape the business in South-East Asia for a multinational company, while supporting clients across Asia, and also Australia, Europe, and Africa.
Regular working days : Mon-Fri, 8 hours / day, 5 days / week.
Responsibilities
- Conduct studies for grid connection projects (feasibility, design stages), transmission and development plans & roadmaps, transmission failure investigations, primarily in South-East Asia but also in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and Africa.
- Manage projects related to Grid connections assets (AIS / GIS HV substations).
- Support Business Development activities in Malaysia by assisting with proposals, client meetings, and related activities.
- Perform analyses for generation grid connection studies, including solar, wind, thermal and energy storage systems.
- Prepare comprehensive study reports, from connection feasibility studies for energy developers to detailed connection studies for utilities.
- Deliver high-quality outputs within agreed parameters, formats, and timelines; review the work of others when necessary.
- Provide specialist advice / solutions, conduct technical presentations to internal and external clients, and participate in technical development activities (conferences, industry presentations).
- Engage in activities to develop the team and business in the region.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor / Master’s degree in electrical engineering.Around 10 years of relevant experience as a Project Manager and Electrical Engineer in HV substations (AIS / GIS), feasibility / design studies for transmission assets, site implementation, and technical support to national transmission utilities.Strong communication skills to support Business Development and client interactions.Experience in cable design, protection coordination and relay settings studies, earthing grid studies, lightning protection is beneficial.Familiar with international codes and standards for detailed electrical design (IEC, IEEE / ANSI, NFPA).Familiar with local Malaysia grid connection regulations and standards.Demonstrated experience in substations projects (AIS / GIS) in Malaysia; proficiency with electrical software tools (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP) is beneficial.Experience in a national T&D company or technical consultancy; experience with a T&D utility is valuable.Registration / certification as an engineer in Malaysia is beneficial but not mandatory.Ability to manage work under time and resource constraints with good quality, and to work under pressure.Strong logical thinking, problem solving, and team collaboration skills.Bahasa Malaysia is mandatory; good English communication skills are required.Additional Information
