Position Summary

The General Ledger & Reporting Accountant is responsible for overseeing the hotel's financial accounting and reporting functions, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of the general ledger, trial balance, and financial statements. This role manages the month-end and year-end closing processes, prepares statutory and management reports (including USALI format for hotel operations), and ensures compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities

1. General Ledger Management

  • Supervise daily posting of journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and adjustments.
  • Review interface transactions from PMS, POS, procurement, and payroll systems into the accounting system. Maintain chart of accounts (aligned to USALI or Group standards).
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of all balance sheet and P&L accounts.
  • Monitor intercompany transactions and reconciliation.

2. Month-End & Year-End Closing

  • Lead the month-end closing process across all hotel departments.
  • Prepare and review monthly balance sheet schedules (bank, AR, AP, deposits, advances, fixed assets, accruals).
  • Ensure proper cutoff procedures for revenue and expenses.
  • Prepare year-end schedules, liaise with external auditors, and support statutory audit completion.
  • 3. Financial Reporting

  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Generate management reports for Hotel GM, Head Office, and Owners (USALI departmental P&L, GOP, NOI).
  • Assist in preparing budget vs. actual variance analysis and rolling forecasts.
  • Consolidate reporting if part of cluster / multi-property environment.
  • Ensure statutory compliance reporting (SST returns, LHDN tax schedules, Companies Act requirements).
  • 4. Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Implement and monitor internal controls over GL and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards (MFRS / IFRS / IAS).
  • Ensure tax compliance – SST, withholding tax, e-Invoice, corporate income tax.
  • Address audit findings and implement corrective actions.
  • 5. Fixed Assets & Capital Expenditure

  • Oversee fixed asset register, depreciation postings, and reconciliations.
  • Monitor capital projects (CIP), ensure proper classification and capitalisation.
  • Review disposal / write-off documentation and approvals.
  • 6. Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise GL accountants / executives and reporting staff.
  • Review work schedules, journals, reconciliations prepared by team members.
  • Provide training and coaching on GL, reporting, and compliance matters.
  • Develop cross-training and succession planning.
  • 7. Business Support

  • Provide financial insights to GM and HODs to support decision-making.
  • Support FP&A team during budgeting and forecasting cycles.
  • Provide ad-hoc financial analysis (e.g., impact of tax changes, accounting treatments, capex decisions).
  • Job Requirements

  • Diploma / Degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent professional qualification (partqualified ACCA / CPA is an advantage).
  • Minimum 2 – 3 years' experience in accounting, preferably in hotel or hospitality industry.
  • Familiar with hotel accounting systems.
  • Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and SST requirements.
  • Detail-oriented with good analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other accounting tools.
