We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Legal Counsel (Telco Industry) to oversee regulatory and compliance matters, with a strong focus on engagement with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. The ideal candidate will provide legal advice, ensure regulatory compliance, manage licensing and reporting obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance
Monitor and interpret relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and directives issued by the MCMC and other authorities from time to time.
Ensure the company’s compliance with the Communications and Multimedia Act and all related regulations.
Prepare, review, and submit regulatory filings, and periodic reports to government agencies.
Advise internal stakeholders on regulatory obligations and potential legal risks.
Work with internal departments (e.g., technical, operations, product) to align business operations with regulatory requirements.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, policies, and legal documents.
Manage regulatory inspections, audits, and responses to enforcement actions or inquiries from government agencies.
Legal Advisory & Contract Management
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, service contracts, NDAs, distribution agreements, licensing agreements, and partnership arrangements.
Ensure all contracts are compliant with applicable laws, internal policies, and business objectives.
Provide legal risk assessments and advice to business units on contractual obligations and potential liabilities.
Maintain an organized contract management system to track key terms, renewal dates, and compliance obligations.
Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to support contract negotiations and project implementation.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) and qualified to practice law in Malaysia.
Minimum 5–7 years of experience in legal and / or regulatory compliance, preferably in the telecommunications, media, or technology sector.
Strong knowledge of MCMC regulations, Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and other relevant statutory requirements.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with internal teams and regulators.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
Experience working in a telco, media, or broadcasting company.
Familiarity with data protection laws and digital content regulation.
Fluency in both English and Bahasa Malaysia
