Mechanical Draftsman

Overview

The Mechanical Draftsman is responsible for preparing detailed 2D and 3D technical drawings, layouts, and schematics for mechanical systems, components, and assemblies. The role requires strong proficiency in AutoCAD (and preferably other CAD tools) to translate design concepts, specifications and calculations into accurate engineering drawings that comply with industry standards, client requirements and project specifications.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 2D and 3D mechanical drawings, plans and schematics using AutoCAD (and other drafting software if required).
• Interpret engineering sketches, specifications and calculations into accurate technical drawings.
• Prepare fabrication, assembly and installation drawings.
• Revise and update drawings as per design changes, engineering reviews or client feedback.
• Ensure all drawings comply with product specifications, standards, codes and company drafting procedures.
• Maintain drawing registers, records and filing systems for easy retrieval and version control.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers and other stakeholders to clarify design requirements and resolve drawing-related issues.
• Assist in preparing bills of materials (BOMs), cutting lists and quantity take-offs from drawings.
• Conduct on-site visits, measurements or surveys (if required) to support accurate drafting.
• Provide technical support during the design, fabrication and installation stages of projects.
• Stay updated with the latest drafting techniques, software features and mechanical engineering standards.
