1. Job Information

  • Grade : DU13
  • Status of Appointment : Permanent (Malaysian only)
  • Basic salary : Between RM6,210.00 and RM14,370.00 (based on experience)
  • Area of specialization : General Psychiatry
  • Department : Psychiatry and Mental Health
  • Location : Kuantan

2. Scope

The officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah / Centre / Department to which they are assigned. The officer shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties, and other obligations normally required of an academic staff member of IIUM. The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to colleagues and students as part of their duties. The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM authorities, boards, and committees to which they may be appointed as a member. The officer is expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community and to advise and guide students on character, behaviour, and moral conduct. In short, the officer is not only a teacher (Mu’allim), a scholar (Alim) but also a moral educator (Murabbi).

3. Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.
  • Developing curricula and course material that can be used across a number of platforms.
  • Collaborating with other academician and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
  • Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
  • Conducting research and writing publications, proposals, journal articles, and books.
  • Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and events within and outside the institution.
  • Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.
  • Providing support to students and colleagues.
  • Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.
  • Functioning as a clinical specialist in Hospital
  • 4. Minimum Qualifications

  • Master of Psychiatry or MRCPsych (Royal College of Psychiatrists)
  • Ability to inspire students with passion.
  • Flexibility, resilience, and willingness to work long hours.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to function as a general specialist (psychiatrist).
  • 5. Minimum Competencies

  • 6. Language Qualifications

  • Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).
  • IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4.
  • Candidates without these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
