This role contributes to the overall success of Berjaya Food Berhad ("BFood") by effectively supporting the Legal Department in delivering timely, accurate and business-focused legal counsel to Management and various business units. The successful candidate will take on an active and accountable role in assisting the Legal Manager across a diverse portfolio of legal, corporate, commercial and compliance matters and in managing legal and regulatory risks across BFood’s operations, projects and strategic initiatives while upholding BFood’s governance standards and brand principles.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and revise a wide range of legal and corporate documents including agreements / contracts in business operations, marketing, supply chain, customer relations, real estate, technology, intellectual property, data protection, employment and industrial relations
  • Assist and contribute to providing practical legal advice, support and guidance to Management and internal stakeholders on operational, commercial and compliance matters
  • Collaborate proactively with cross-functional teams to obtain accurate information, documentation and evidence, and facilitate timely preparation, execution and management of legal documentation and processes
  • Assist in dispute resolution and management of contentious matters and litigation
  • Conduct legal research on applicable laws, regulations and latest developments relevant to the F&B industry and BFood’s business operations and projects
  • Maintain well-organized legal documentation, ensuring accurate filing, record-keeping and adherence to internal procedures
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) or equivalent degree in law. Admission to the Malaysian Bar is highly desirable
  • Minimum 1-3 years of work experience in a law firm in Malaysia. Prior in-house legal experience is an advantage for smoother transition
  • Prior exposure in the F&B, retail or service industry will be an advantage
  • Solid understanding of legal principles with strong analytical skills and sound knowledge of civil, commercial, corporate and contract laws
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally
  • Detail-oriented, with ability to organize and execute day-to-day tasks efficiently and maintain communication on work progress and deliverables
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration spirit
  • Proactive, highly adaptable and capable of working independently with minimal supervision in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Strong sense of responsibility, self-initiative and resourcefulness in achieving objectives and overcoming challenges
