Overview
Lead Database Administrator in Great Eastern plays a critical role in overseeing end to end management of large and diverse database environment supporting over 500 databases across multiple platforms including Oracle, ExaCC, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, DB2, Yugabyte, MariaDB and on prem cloud based OCI. The role demands strong technical leadership, people management, strategic planning, stakeholder management and vendor coordination. To lead a team of DBAs, managing day to day database operations, planning enhancement to uplift performance, ensure compliance, safeguard the data by deploying relevant security measures to the core and supporting databases across the organization to achieve properly structured, optimally performing, stable, resilient and secure databases.
1) Technical Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and guide the DBA team on Day-to-Day operations and support multiplatform databases including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, DB2, Yugabyte, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB
- Serve as primary technical authority on database architecture, performance tuning, database recovery and automation related to database management
- Ensure compliance to patching and hardening to meet all the organizational and regulatory requirements
- Define clear objectives, conduct performance reviews, come up with skill building plans for the DBA team which consists of mid-level to senior DBAs
- Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, customer centricity and continuous improvement
- Able to resolve conflicts and ensure harmonious collaboration within and outside the team such as application team
- Drive database structural and tuning efficiency by working closely with application teams
2) Service Uptime and Availability and Security
Ensure commitment to defined uptime SLAEnsure minimal disruption to business during planned activities by knowing how to leverage available technologiesDatabase healthchecks are performed consistently in a planned mannerEnsure all databases are patched / remediated in a timely manner to the required version for both functional and non functional patches with emphasis on Security patches and address all vulnerabilities received from Security team, to work very closely with Security team to ensure secure and robust database environmentsEnsure 24x7 availability of DBA for database recoverability purposes. Actively participate and be the key person in resolving DB related incidentsParticipate in key meetings called by Security, Service Management, inter teams discussions as necessary3) Projects and Strategic Initiatives
Lead and deliver critical database related projects such as version upgrades and migrations and capacity expansionsWork very closely with Project and Solution team in projects and initiatives as requiredPlan and develop near and long-term roadmaps for database technologies aligned with Group IT strategies4) Scripting and Automation
Work closely with Tools and observability team on initiatives to drive automation across the database landscapeContinuously work with Tools and automation team to ensure efficiency of the tools for proactive monitoring, timely alerting and reportingEvaluate the effectiveness of tools deployed across the database platform5) Embrace and Adopt AI based enhancements
Venture into Intelligent performance monitoring and optimization such as OEM with AI extensions to identify bottlenecks automatically instead to manually running AWRs, recommend other tuning such as indexing creation / removal, query tuning and partitioning, workload predictionExplore and identify AI driven governance and security6) Governance, Compliance and Risk and Audit
Ensure adherence to internal security policies and guidelines and external regulatory standardsAdherence to change management policies and procedures, ensuring the DBA’s team compliance of the sameParticipate and front audits for database related audits, work closely with Risk & Compliance team to proactively manage audit, close findings and improve controls in a timely manner7) Stakeholder and vendor management
Act as primary person in charge for senior stakeholders regarding database health, strategy, incident and issuesCollaborate with business partners, department heads, various tower leads, application portfolio directors as requiredMaintain good relationships with various vendors and database product vendors, ensuring SLAs and Contractual obligations are met.Collaborate at Group level as required, to receive and provide input with counterparts at the BankRepresent database domain in cross functional IT and business discussionsWe are looking for people who
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer science, Information Technology or related fieldsMinimum 10-15+ years of experience of hands-on database administration with at least 5 years in leadership roleStrong expertise in Database, mandatorily with Oracle 11g onwards, MS SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle ExaCC, OCI, OEM, EBS, IBM DB2Postgres and Yugabytes will be an added advantageOracle Certification is preferred such as OCP as well as any other certification on databasesExcellent troubleshooting, performance tuning and incident recovery skillsHigh level of integrity, takes accountability of work and good attitude over teamworkTakes initiative to improve current state of things and adaptable to embrace new changesHow you succeed
