Overview :
Our client, a leading global technology services provider, is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to take ownership of managing and optimising modern Microsoft-based infrastructure environments. The role involves a balance of hands‑on engineering, problem‑solving, and collaboration with technical and consulting teams to deliver secure, efficient, and scalable systems for enterprise customers.
This position suits someone who enjoys both deep technical work and client‑facing collaboration – ensuring environments remain reliable, secure, and continuously improving.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a senior technical lead across Microsoft 365 and Windows Server environments, ensuring performance, compliance, and security standards are met.
- Serve as a key escalation point for complex incidents and drive permanent corrective solutions through to implementation.
- Work closely with customers, managed services, and consulting teams to understand end‑to‑end environments and deliver tangible outcomes.
- Lead technical workshops to identify recurring issues, propose optimisations, and implement best practices.
- Manage and maintain core Microsoft infrastructure including Exchange, Active Directory, Entra ID (Azure AD), and related services.
- Oversee endpoint security posture, including Microsoft Defender, vulnerability management, and secure score improvement.
- Support virtualisation platforms such as VMware and Azure, as well as physical host infrastructure (ILO / IDRAC).
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing within the wider technical team.
Core Technical Skills
Strong hands‑on experience across Microsoft Exchange, Exchange Online, and Microsoft 365 administration.Solid knowledge of Windows Server technologies (Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy) and Entra ID (Azure AD).Familiarity with Microsoft Defender, including policy configuration, threat management, and secure score optimisation.Working understanding of Microsoft Teams, Always On VPN, and related collaboration services.Proficiency in VMware (vCenter, ESXi) and exposure to Azure virtualisation.Experience performing firmware updates, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.Knowledge of physical server infrastructure, remote management tools (ILO / IDRAC), and general infrastructure troubleshooting.Ideal Background
Minimum 5–8 years’ experience in systems engineering or modern workplace environments.Proven background in Microsoft enterprise environments, preferably within an MSP, consultancy, or large‑scale enterprise setting.Strong analytical and troubleshooting ability with a continuous improvement mindset.Comfortable working in customer‑facing scenarios and leading discussions on technical solutions.Relevant certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified : Enterprise Administrator Expert, Modern Desktop Administrator, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP) are highly regarded.Why Join :
