Purpose
School Counsellors are certified / licensed educators with a minimum of a master's degree in school counselling, making them uniquely qualified to address all student's academic, personal / social and career development needs by designing, implementing, evaluating and enhancing a comprehensive school counselling program that promotes and enhances student success.
Relationships
The school counsellor reports directly to the School Principal / Vice Principal. The position must maintain positive working relationships with :

Job Responsibilities :
Develop, manage, and deliver school counselling programs.Provide individual or group counselling to students with identified concerns and needs.Consult and collaborate effectively with parents / guardians, teachers, and other relevant educational / community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs.Work with teachers to develop strategies for assisting students with learning difficulties. The counsellor may also meet with the child's parents to discuss ways to facilitate learning at home and maximise learning outcomes.Accurately and appropriately uses assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counselling services.Monitors students' academic performance, behaviour and attendance and assists with appropriate interventions.Helping students create a plan to achieve academic and career goals.Collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents to help students succeed.Facilitate / organise relevant preventive and responsive programs for students, teachers, and parents / guardians.Evaluate and improve counselling programmes by recommending to the school board to principal campaigns / initiatives that will benefit all staff members, students, and their family members.Prepare reports and maintain records of counselling cases, safeguarding students / parents' information confidentiality.Based on a case-by-case basis, the school counsellor may refer students to external agencies equipped to deal with the students' concerns. E.g., recommend a student undergo a psychological test at the hospital, report child abuse or neglect to the school and relevant authorities, etc.Support and attend appropriate student activities and events.2. Degree in Counselling, preferably Masters's in Counselling.Must be registered and a licensed counsellor under Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia (LKM).Minimum 2 years relevant working experience. Experience in an international school setting is an added advantage.Thorough understanding of barriers to student learning and using counselling strategies to eliminate those barriers.Knowledge of individual counselling, group counselling and classroom instruction promotes academic achievement.Knowledge and experience in special education (added advantage).To have a basic understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.To have a working knowledge of various counselling models, practices and resources.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.A good listener and problem solver.Compassion and patience.Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia; the ability to converse in Mandarin is an added advantage.Job Types : Full-time, Permanent
