About the Role You’ll be the
Second-in-Command (2IC)
to the Ranger Operations Lead. Lead a ranger
section , supervise Patrol Leads, deliver threat-led patrols and targeted operations, and ensure field information (SMART / QGIS) is used in planning, briefings / debriefs, and reporting.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead a ranger
section
day-to-day; set tasking with the ROL and enforce EMS SOPs and Malaysian law.
Plan and manage counter-poaching / protection activities in your sector (intelligence / threat-led, risk-assessed).
Supervise
Patrol Leads ; coach fieldcraft and safety; run refreshers / drills; maintain morale and discipline.
Prepare and run
briefings / debriefs ; capture lessons and update routes, tactics, equipment, and comms.
Use
SMART queries
and basic analytics; produce concise section updates and reports.
Produce simple
operation / patrol maps
(QGIS basics) for planning and deployments.
Maintain
logistics & inventories
(kits, radios, GPS, cameras, uniforms) and readiness of personnel.
Share accurate data with Biodiversity / Decision-Support teams; participate in assessments and reporting.
Liaise professionally with
agencies, communities, and NGO partners
for joint ops and problem-solving.
Act for the ROL
when required to ensure operational continuity.
What We’re Looking For (Requirements)
Based in / willing to relocate to Jerantut, Pahang , with
rotational deployments to Mat Daling / Pasir Raja .
Own transport (car)
Jerantut ↔ field bases .
5+ years
in conservation / field operations (or related), with
≥3 years
team leadership in remote terrain.
Excellent field fitness
for multi-day treks ( 20–25 kg ), river crossings, steep terrain, and adverse weather.
Section leadership :
supervises Patrol Leads; coaches safety and fieldcraft; fair discipline and welfare oversight.
Operational delivery :
prepares taskings and risk assessments; runs effective briefings / debriefs with follow-through.
Navigation & comms :
maps / compass / GPS basics; proper radio etiquette and comms discipline.
Safety & safeguarding :
first-aid awareness, incident reporting; respectful engagement with communities.
Data use : pulls simple
SMART
queries; aligns plans with findings; submits accurate section updates / reports on time.
Computer-literate & organised :
email / docs / sheets; willing to learn EMS tools / templates.
Language & conduct : strong
Bahasa Malaysia
with workable
English ; clean record; integrity and sound judgement.
Preferred (Nice to Have)
Uniformed services
background (military / police),
NCO-level
section leadership.
QGIS
basics for patrol / operation maps.
Experience managing
rotas / rosters , kit inventories, and readiness checks.
First aid / wilderness first aid ; radio procedure; clear incident / report writing.
Inter-agency coordination experience; able to
act for the ROL
when needed.
