Software Engineer & Coding Instructor at Sigma School
We are building the future of tech education with a learning portal powered by AI, real courses, and production‑grade code. We need someone who writes code and can teach it.
Current Challenges
- Our learning platform is brittle—adding courses, assignments, content types feels like wrestling spaghetti.
- Students complain we don’t ship features fast enough—especially around interactive labs, auto‑grading, adaptive content.
- We have AI tools (e.g., auto‑feedback on code, adaptive difficulty) but no one to architect and build the core plumbing.
- Instructors know the theory but often lack full‑stack engineering experience; we need seasoned curriculum creators.
- We want to stay ahead of what students will need : modern DevOps, cloud infra, AI tools.
Role Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain the core infrastructure of the learning portal : course delivery, lab environments, auto‑grading, dashboards, version control, real‑time collaboration.Lead a small team of instructors and engineers : mentor, set coding standards, conduct reviews.Build end‑to‑end new courses : architecture, content, labs, assessments, and AI integration.Collaborate with AI / ML folks to integrate intelligence : auto‑feedback systems, adaptive paths, error prediction, code completion.Design and deliver lessons, workshops, and projects that emphasize real coding over slides.Make technical decisions on stack, frameworks, deployment, auto‑scaling, monitoring, and CI / CD.What We Need You to Bring
2+ years of real‑world software engineering in backend, frontend, and infrastructure.Deep experience with a modern full‑stack framework (Node.js, Django, Rails, Go, etc.) and a modern frontend framework (React, Vue, Svelte, etc.).Strong understanding of deployment, scaling, monitoring, and CI / CD pipelines.Excellent communication : simplify complex concepts, write documentation, mentor juniors.Belief that learning is done through real code and projects—not just slides.Nice‑to‑Haves
Experience with AI / ML tooling for auto‑feedback, grading, or adaptive systems. Background in education technology or learning management systems.Prior teaching or mentoring experience.Familiarity with AWS, GCP, Azure, serverless, or containerization.Open‑source contributions or published technical content.Experience building AI feedback or code evaluation systems. What You’ll Own & Rewards
Autonomy : define the tech roadmap in collaboration with leadership.Impact : your work will serve hundreds or thousands of students, shaping their learning experience.Growth : opportunity to lead, teach, and build your own team.Learning : collaborate with AI / ML experts and education designers, stretch beyond coding.Compensation : competitive market rate, equity, benefits, and flexibility.Who This Is Not For
A person who has never shipped production apps but only toy projects or coursework.A person who dislikes teaching, explaining, or mentoring.A person who prefers solo work only and hates dealing with content, pedagogy, or student feedback.A person who wants a role that’s just lecture slides or just behind‑the‑scenes coding. How to Apply
Apply at sig1.co / apply-job .Send a note with :Large‑scale code projects you’ve architected, built, and maintained (include tech stack).
An example where you taught someone or built educational content.A side project or open‑source work that shows you solve hard problems. What you think is the biggest technical / UX challenge in learning portals with AI today.Seniority Level
