St. Joseph’s Institution International School (SJIIS) is a Lasallian International School (3 to 18 years). It prepares students for the Cambridge IGCSE and A Level examinations with an emphasis upon research‑based teaching pedagogy and a character‑building programme of activities inspired by the school’s Lasallian heritage. This includes service learning initiatives, and a holistic approach to sport, music and the arts.

SJIIS is seeking an outstanding and inspirational Head of Humanities , whose passion and extensive experience in the field will transform the outcomes of our students across all subjects within the department. The Role

Key Subject Areas

The Humanities Department includes a diverse range of subjects.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in teaching Cambridge IGCSE and A Level in at least two Humanities subjects (e.g., Geography, History, Business, Economics) is essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in successfully leading or coordinating a large, multi‑disciplinary faculty, with a focus on subjects including both traditional Humanities and Business / Social Sciences.
  • Deep pedagogical knowledge across the department’s subject range, ensuring quality teaching at all Key Stages.

Responsibility

  • Oversee pedagogical practices and classroom management within the department to ensure high quality teaching and learning occurs consistently across all subjects (KS3 Humanities, Geography, History, Global Perspectives, Business, Economics, and Accounting). This will include modelling excellent teaching practices to other staff within the department.
  • Drive curriculum development for all subjects in the department, ensuring thorough curriculum knowledge, coherence, and alignment with Cambridge IGCSE and A Level specifications.
  • Lead, manage, and appraise the staff within the department, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing team culture across all subject specialisms.
  • Ensure that planning, preparation, recording, assessment, and reports across the department meet the expectations of the school and external examination boards.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach towards professional development, both personally and for all department members.
  • Actively contribute to wider school development and growth, including promoting cross‑curricular links.
  • Promote the Lasallian Mission and Core Values of SJIIS.
