Title : Dean of Faculty of Computing and Digital Technology
Reporting to : Vice Chancellor
JOB DESCRIPTION
1. GENERAL
a. to chair meetings including faculty meetings, prepare reports for presentation to the Senior Management and / or other relevant meetings / committees as may be required;
b. to report to the faculty on all relevant matters arising in the faculty and / or other meetings / committees as may be required and to initiate any necessary action on such matters;
c. to ensure liaison with other departments of HELP including supporting departments (eg. Marketing, Registry, Property and Maintenance, Student Services, Bursary, Library, Computer Center) on all operational matters affecting the faculty.
2. STAFF MATTERS
a. conduct interviews (both academic and administrative including part-time staff) with the Head of Department, oversee appraisals and evaluations conducted by the Head of Department;
b. forward recommendations relating to training and development, probationary periods, promotions, leave of absence for Heads of Department in the faculty (formal records of all such matters are to be held with the Human Resource Department);
c. to ensure Heads of Department in the faculty carry out their responsibilities; monitor and oversee their work.
3. MARKETING AND FINANCIAL MATTERS
a. To ensure marketing activities are planned for the faculty;
b. to monitor and oversee the recruitment of students into the faculty and to liaise with the Customer Marketing Department over media / promotion services relating to the department;
c. to draw up an annual Budget for the faculty, detailing targeted student numbers and to work with the Heads of Department towards ensuring such targets are met.
4. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
a. to review the current programs and oversee program development within the faculty under review and to make recommendations to the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Vice Chancellor on matters relating to program development;
b. to be directly involved in long-term operational and strategic planning for the faculty.
5. ACADEMIC MATTERS
a. to teach and supervise on the courses / programs offered by HELP as may be required;
b. to ensure the departments under the purview of the faculty maintain quality of programs, and that curriculum and programs are reviewed and changes recommended;
c. responsible for new program development;
d. ensure the faculty members conduct research, and are involved in consultancy and community service.
6. PROJECT MANAGEMENT
a. to coordinate and successfully implement large scale and medium scale projects as assigned by Senior Management.
7. MISCELLANEOUS
a. to be responsible for all other matters pertinent to the efficient and effective administration and management of the faculty;
b. to undertake any other task / project as may be assigned from time to time by the Senior Management and / or other authorized person / s of HELP
