Delivery Lead – HSBC Recruitment
International Wealth and Premier Banking (IWPB) Global Transformation Delivery Lead plans, mobilises and directs projects of high complexity and scale from project definition to closure. They are responsible for the end-to-end planning and delivery of one or more projects, proactively balancing scope, schedule, budget, risks, team, outcomes and benefits. Projects can be standalone or form part of a programme. They are responsible to support IWPB in delivering business outcomes through successful project / programme delivery. They work closely with the Business, Product Owners, Technologies, Programme Managers and Global Portfolio Management Office to ensure alignment of their project with the wider change portfolio and the Group Strategy, Values and Behaviours.
What you’ll do
Delivery Leads will often play a people / team management role within the projects / programmes they work on. As members of the IWPB Global Transformation management team, they will also have line management responsibility for a group of more junior resources within their resource pool (as related to their job family). Alongside project delivery responsibilities, the Delivery Lead may have a line responsibility for a pool of Transformation staff (Delivery Managers / Business Analysts / PMO) on people management, performance management, resource management and professional development.
Responsibilities
- Plans effectively around delivery constraints and optimises the plan to maximise benefits and minimise risk. Develops the plan within constraints, considering delivery approach, milestones, dependencies, requirements and scope, effort and resources, budgets and quality.
- Ensures baselined scope, requirements, benefits, schedule and budget are managed according to HSBC Change Framework. Identifies and intervenes where there is slippage and variance from plan.
- Plans and analyses costs, tracks operating and capital spend, and reports against the financial business case commitments.
- Oversees tracking of project risks / issues / dependencies, assesses impact on benefit realisation and takes action to minimise impact; challenges and removes obstacles.
- Influences and collaborates with stakeholders to drive the right project outcomes. Represents the project team in prioritisation discussions and gains buy-in for risk mitigation and contingency plans.
- Obtains sponsor and stakeholder buy-in to plans, key commitments and changes against baseline as they arise. Secures sign-off for deliverables, closes projects formally, measures stakeholder satisfaction and captures feedback. Documents key learnings for Global Change Delivery methodologies and best practice.
- Articulates targeted benefits to stakeholders and shares responsibility for benefits realisation. Manages the business sponsor to ensure project deliverables are met.
- Plans and manages the implementation of the change to realise business benefits and ensures a smooth transition from current to target state. Ensures readiness of the organisation and change audiences.
- Works closely with delivery partners on planning, design and estimating, coordinating dependencies between teams and other projects / programmes. Sets pace and operating rhythm, driving a culture of achievement and removing barriers to success.
- Promotes pace and energy within the team and leads by example.
Operational Performance
Produces a well-defined project plan in Clarity, defines key milestones and assigns responsibilities / resources.Demonstrates financial skills to develop a detailed business case, including investments, benefits and linkage to overall finances.Demonstrates familiarity with IWPB Agile Ways of Working.Develops and / or reviews estimates for schedule, effort, and cost using Global Change Delivery models and best practices.Mobilises the project team and allocates tasks and roles. Provides timely reports on project status, risks and issues.Manages and reports on the project budget and variances; manages risks, issues and dependencies. Maintains change control and ensures impacts are considered.Promotes quality and governance to enable timely decisions and risk mitigation. Coordinates with stakeholders to define project strategy and roadmaps.Ensures teams follow quality assurance processes and HSBC Change Framework; conducts governance activities including Steering Committee engagement and escalation where needed.Directs project approach, staffing, responsibilities and schedule to drive maximum productivity.Capability and People Development
Identifies and communicates resource requirements to the Programme Manager / Head of Resource Practice; ensures effective staffing and team formation with the right skills and relationships.Ensures effective project induction and orientation; defines high-level responsibilities and objectives for team members.Provides regular feedback and coaching; conducts 1 : 1s at least every fortnight. Acts as a role model to promote collaboration and development.Maintains a focus on people development, ensuring training on HSBC Change Framework where needed.Outside of the project context, the Delivery Lead may have line responsibility for a pool of Delivery Managers, involving performance, resource management and development objectives with the Line Manager.Promotes a performance-driven culture to improve efficiency and performance, including management of underperformers. Supports and promotes the Group’s Values and strategy.Requirements
Knowledge
Good working knowledge of private banking / wealth management / investment banking domains preferred.Excellent understanding of the project lifecycle and HSBC Change Framework; familiarity with Agile Ways of Working and tools.Strong understanding of banking, HSBC context and how change drives benefits for HSBC, customers and stakeholders.Experience
Extensive project management skills with large, complex projects.Experience in private banking / wealth management / investment banking initiatives is preferred.Strong people management experience and leading large multi-workstream teams.Proven track record of delivering on time and on budget with clear business-case outcomes; bias toward pace and controlled delivery.Experience in banking environment change projects and stakeholder management, governance, benefits realisation.Capabilities
