EYC (Nursery / Reception) - Assistant Teacher (2026)
An Early Years Centre Assistant Teacher (Nursery / Reception) should be an adaptable and inspiring educator. He / she should be a good assistant teacher, motivator and communicator and should provide a stimulating and well‑organised learning environment for the pupils. He / she should be able to provide professional expertise, high quality teaching, make effective use of resources and ensure improved standards of achievement for all pupils. He / She should be a team player, willing to work alongside colleagues to the greater good of their own teaching and the learning.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Professional Values and Practice
ATs are able to work as part of a team and uphold the GIS ethos and core values.
ATs are able to build positive working relationships with children, colleagues, parents and careers.
ATs are striving to improve their own practice and are open to coaching and mentoring.
Knowledge and Understanding
ATs are able to demonstrate that they have sufficient knowledge, expertise and awareness of the GIS curriculum.
ATs demonstrate that they have sufficient subject understanding to work with a group of children effectively with the guidance of the class teacher.
ATs are proficient in spoken English and are able to use basic Maths and ICT tools to complete given tasks.
Teaching and Learning
ATs use strategies to support active participation by all children and encourage independence when leading a group activity.
ATs use any resources effectively, including ICT, to meet the diverse needs of children.
ATs create learning environments that are safe, welcoming, stimulating and fun.
ATs have high social and behavioural expectations of children in line with the class teacher’s procedures.
ATs are sure of teacher’s intentions and methods, including assessment technique and are able to follow teacher plans and instructions carefully.
ATs use simple strategies to support or extend learners. They are also able to ask for help if they are unsure.
Administration
ATs complete admin tasks diligently alongside their main role of supporting teaching and learning within the classroom.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
MINIMUM ACADEMIC / PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION :
Minimum of SPM; degree or diploma holders with some experience of working with children preferred.
Minimum 2 years teaching experience.
Possess good communication skills and be willing to adapt to the demands of an international school.
Be able to participate fully in an expanding school and in particular help to develop the team spirit within the school and satisfy pupil needs in academic and pastoral matters.
Be able to teach mixed culture and ability classes using a variety of styles to create appropriate learning opportunities for all students.
Be familiar with English National Curriculum.
