The Role
We are seeking a results-driven and visionary Head, Environment to join our dynamic team. This role will drive the implementation of YP’s portfolio of environment-related, high-impact strategic initiatives, with transparency and good governance. He / she will spearhead strategic alliances, collaborations, and partnerships for the effective and efficient delivery of programmes, contributing to YP’s strategic objective of creating sustainable impact for the well-being of society.
Function
The Head, Environment provides strategic leadership and oversight for YP’s environmental agenda, facilitating the effective protection, restoration, and sustainable use of terrestrial and marine ecosystems, while strengthening community resilience against climate change. The role aligns environmental initiatives with corporate sustainability goals, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder expectations, driving measurable impact on biodiversity, ecosystem health, and community well-being.
Key Accountabilities
- Contribution Channel Management (Programmes, Grants, Donations) : Oversee the management of programmes, grants, and donations under the Environment pillar, ensuring alignment with Yayasan PETRONAS’ objectives and effective contribution to the Environment Theory of Change (TOC).
- Programme Design & Strategic Planning : Lead the design and development of impactful environment programmes that align with Yayasan PETRONAS’ objectives and TOC, with a focus on enhancing environmental initiatives. Strategise for programmes to be scalable, sustainable, and incorporate best practices in community engagement and development.
- Partnership Development & Resource Mobilisation : Cultivate and secure strategic partnerships to support programme objectives. Engage with key donors, partners, and stakeholders to facilitate resource mobilisation for the success of environment programmes.
- Project Management & Execution : Direct end-to-end project management for all environment programmes, including establishing timelines, managing resources, collaborating with implementing partners, and ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and within budget.
- Strategic Positioning : Steer the planning and execution of environment-related activations and engagements such as workshops, events, training sessions, and award programmes to support programme objectives and stakeholder engagement.
- Stakeholder & Partnership Engagement : Build and maintain strong relationships with essential stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, community organisations, beneficiaries, and corporate partners, to enhance resource mobilisation and secure strategic partnerships aligned with programme goals.
- Risk Management & Compliance : Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate strategic risks across all programme areas. Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory, safety, and environmental standards, while upholding Yayasan PETRONAS’ commitment to ethical and sustainable practices.
- Governance & Compliance Management : Monitor environment-related policy development and updates, ensuring adherence to governance frameworks and regulatory compliance, including tax and integrity standards, to maintain a strong internal control environment and alignment with YP and PETRONAS guidelines.
- Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting : Implement comprehensive monitoring frameworks to assess programme progress and outcomes, address challenges proactively, and generate data-driven reports for internal and external stakeholders, illustrating programme impact and identifying areas for improvement.
- Knowledge Management : Guide knowledge management practices to support information sharing and learning.
- Partner / Grantee Capacity Building and Development : Strategise collaboration for capacity-building initiatives aimed at empowering implementing partners and grantees to effectively execute and manage environment projects in alignment with Yayasan PETRONAS’ standards.
- Sustainability & Exit Strategy : Direct sustainability and exit strategies within all environment programmes to achieve lasting impact, enabling initiatives to thrive beyond Yayasan PETRONAS’ direct involvement.
- Advocacy & Thought Leadership : Represent Yayasan PETRONAS in industry discussions, advocating for environmental best practices and equitable access to quality environment initiatives.
- Governance & Compliance : Adhere to governance policies, standards, guidelines, risk frameworks, and overall governance matters, maintaining alignment with YP and PETRONAS guidelines.
- Capacity Building of Team Members : Execute capability enhancement initiatives for team members to strengthen their capacity for effective delivery.
Qualifications and Experience
Academic Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.A Master’s Degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability, or relevant fields is highly preferred.Years of Experience
12–14 years of working experience, with at least 8 years in a leadership role in environmental programme design, execution, and management, with a focus on marine and terrestrial conservation.
Programme Management : Strong ability to manage and monitor environment programmes, ensuring high-quality delivery and adherence to timelines. Proficient in addressing programme challenges and recommending actionable solutions.Stakeholder Engagement : Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build relationships and foster collaboration with stakeholders.Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting : Skilled in data collection, programme tracking, and impact assessment to drive evidence-based decision-making. Experienced in preparing programme performance reports for leadership and stakeholders.Risk & Compliance Management : Ability to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with environment-related regulations and internal standards.Capacity Building : Experienced in supporting training and development initiatives for implementing partners and staff.Sustainability Planning : Ability to contribute to programme sustainability and exit strategies that achieve long-term community impact.Technical Proficiency : Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and programme management tools.Communication & Presentation Skills : Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively present programme progress and insights to stakeholders.Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills : Ability to analyse programme data, identify gaps, and propose effective solutions.Team Leadership : Experienced in mentoring and managing a team to deliver programme objectives effectively.Working at Yayasan PETRONAS offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful social development initiatives in Malaysia.
