Join Hata as a Compliance Operations Lead and take ownership of day-to-day compliance operations to uphold high internal standards and regulatory requirements in Malaysia. You will oversee onboarding, due diligence, and transaction monitoring for retail and corporate investors, mentor the compliance operations team, review complex cases, and collaborate with the Compliance Officer to refine processes and address compliance risks.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Semantan (with strong public transport connectivity).
What You’ll Be Doing
- Conduct in-depth reviews of customer onboarding cases and ensure KYC processes are applied consistently based on risk assessments.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the onboarding, monitoring, and investigations team in line with AML / CFT policies and regulatory obligations.
- Lead and mentor compliance operations associates, providing guidance, training, and development to enhance skills and investigative quality.
- Review complex onboarding cases, high-risk KYC / EDD escalations, and significant transaction monitoring alerts; make final recommendations to the Compliance Officer.
- Ensure quality control across KYC, CDD, EDD, sanctions screening, and transaction monitoring with regular QA checks and feedback.
- Manage and prioritise workloads to meet internal SLAs and regulatory timelines, including case distribution and tracking.
- Refine operational processes by identifying inefficiencies and risks; collaborate with the Compliance Officer to implement improvements.
- Oversee sanctions, PEP, and adverse media screening processes, ensuring accuracy and timely escalation of potential matches.
- Supervise on-chain and off-chain investigations using tools such as Chainalysis / Elliptic, ensuring documentation and regulatory compliance.
- Review and endorse Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) with proper records and audit trails.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for operational queries, complex cases, and stakeholder communications related to compliance operations.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (product, customer support, risk, legal) to resolve compliance matters efficiently.
- Support compliance projects and audits, including preparing documentation, reporting metrics, and presenting performance to the Compliance Officer and Senior Management.
- Stay updated on regulatory changes and industry best practices to proactively update procedures and ensure ongoing compliance.
Qualifications
Three or more years of experience in compliance roles; passion for the cryptocurrency space. Prior experience in a cryptocurrency exchange is beneficial but not required.
Ideal candidate profile :
Completed higher education (degree or higher).Two or more years’ experience in AML, CDD / EDD review or KYC workflow.Strong English proficiency and writing skills.Strong attention to detail and investigative abilities.Knowledge of Malaysia’s regulatory environment (e.g., SC guidelines on AML / CFT and sanctions in the capital market).Familiarity with screening and transaction monitoring tools; Google Workspace a plus.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving industry with strong teamwork and prioritisation skills.Direct application : emailSeniority level
