Mechanical Engineer – Biomass Power Plant
Overview of responsibilities follows the project lifecycle from construction through operation and maintenance.
Responsibilities – Project Execution
- Review Project Execution Plan from EPC contractors.
- Provide technical support during installation, erection, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems (boilers, turbines, piping, fuel handling systems, conveyors, ash handling, cooling towers, pumps, compressors, etc.).
- Review design drawings, technical documents, and vendor specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Prepare method statements, risk assessments, and technical reports to support project execution.
- Assist the Project Manager in monitoring contractors’ work, including quality checks, work progress, and compliance with engineering standards.
- Support in coordination with EPC contractors, consultants, and suppliers to resolve technical and site issues.
- Verify installation works against approved design and specifications; highlight deviations and propose corrective actions.
- Participate in factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT).
- Assist in site inspections, QA / QC documentation, punch lists, NCRs, As-Built documentations, Final documentations and handover processes.
- Monitor site safety practices together with HSSE personnel and ensure mechanical works are carried out in accordance with HSSE requirements.
- Maintain construction records, daily reports, and equipment logs for submission to management.
Responsibilities – Operation & Maintenance Phase
Support day-to-day operation of mechanical systems, monitoring equipment performance, efficiency, and reliability.Assist in planning and scheduling preventive and corrective maintenance of boilers, turbines, pumps, piping, conveyors, and auxiliary systems, etc.Troubleshoot mechanical issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective measures.Maintain maintenance records, plant logs, and spare parts inventory.Provide technical support for procurement of spare parts, consumables, and service contracts.Liaise with contractors, vendors and the related Authorities for servicing, overhauls, and upgrades of mechanical systems.Monitor plant performance data, prepare technical reports, and recommend improvement measures.Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements related to plant operations.Support in outage / overhaul planning and execution, including scope definition, contractor supervision, and documentation.Assist the Project Manager in training O&M staff on mechanical systems and procedures.Participate in audits, inspections, and performance evaluations of plant systems.Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.At least 3 years of relevant experience in power plants, biomass, or heavy industry.Strong knowledge of boilers, steam turbines, piping systems, conveyors, pumps, and pressure vessels.Familiar with codes and standards (ASME, API, etc.) and QA / QC procedures.Ability to converse in Mandarin and read technical documents in Mandarin, for liaising with China-based suppliers and EPC contractors.Experience in site supervision, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance.Strong problem-solving, reporting, and coordination skills.Willing to be based at project site and support both construction and O&M activities.Added Advantage
Prior experience in biomass or renewable energy projects.Knowledge of HSSE practices, outage planning, and reliability-centred maintenance.Exposure to project management, documentation, and regulatory compliance.#J-18808-Ljbffr
