The company develops, invests in, and operates large-scale solar, wind, and energy storage projects, with a mission to accelerate Asia's transition to a cleaner, more reliable energy future. This role is based in Malaysia and focuses on spearheading activities in the region.
Role Overview
We are recruiting a Country Manager - Malaysia to drive the origination, development, and delivery of renewable energy and storage projects. This senior leadership role covers the full lifecycle of projects, from greenfield development through to financial close and successful construction, while also exploring M&A and partnership opportunities. The Country Manager will build and lead a local team, secure land and permitting, negotiate commercial agreements, and ensure projects are structured for long-term success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of solar PV and battery storage projects in Malaysia, from origination through to commercial operation.
- Build and manage relationships with government authorities, regulators, utilities, landowners, and local stakeholders.
- Identify and secure new business opportunities, including partnerships, joint developments, and M&A.
- Manage permitting, land acquisition, grid connection, and offtake arrangements for projects.
- Negotiate and close commercial agreements such as PPAs, land leases, joint development agreements, and EPC contracts.
- Develop and present investment cases for approval at senior management and investment committee levels.
- Lead, grow, and mentor a high-performing local team spanning development, investment, and project management.
- Collaborate with central functions in engineering, legal, finance, and supply chain to advance projects.
- Ensure projects meet WHSE standards, are delivered on schedule and budget, and achieve targeted returns.
- Stay abreast of Malaysian market developments, regulatory changes, and industry dynamics to inform strategy.
Candidate Requirements
Degree in Finance, Business, Engineering, or related discipline (postgraduate qualification advantageous).15+ years of professional experience in renewable energy or power infrastructure, with a strong track record of delivering projects to completion.Established network with developers, government bodies, EPCs, and financiers in Malaysia.Detailed understanding of TNB processes and requirements for project approvals and grid connection.Proven leadership experience with the ability to build and develop teams.Strong commercial skills, including negotiation of PPAs and project finance arrangements.Excellent interpersonal, stakeholder management, and communication skills in both English and Bahasa Malaysia.Self-driven, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently.Willingness to travel extensively within Malaysia and across Southeast Asia.Location
