About the Role
Turn wildlife monitoring data into decisions . You will design and execute camera-trap / biological monitoring, keep clean data pipelines (collection → QA / QC → analysis), and produce maps, dashboards, and briefings so managers can act quickly. Close collaboration with patrol teams and partners is essential.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Plan and update wildlife monitoring protocols (esp. camera traps) with the DSS Lead; align with field realities.
- Coordinate deployments with patrol / field teams; uphold safety, data discipline, and timelines.
- Process, catalogue, and QA / QC data; manage databases (e.g., SMART Field / Field Sensors).
- Analyse datasets (indices / occupancy / trends) and synthesise with patrol / SMART outputs to inform operations.
- Produce maps / briefing packs for tasking; contribute to briefings / debriefs and after-action learning.
- Deliver timely monthly / quarterly summaries , donor inputs, and post-operation notes.
- Help maintain EMS data governance (naming, folders, permissions, backups) and Integrated Data System (IDS).
- Engage professionally with agencies / NGOs / universities on data sharing and joint products.
- Stay current with biodiversity monitoring methods; join trainings / workshops as needed.
What We’re Looking For (Requirements)
Bachelor’s in Biology / Conservation Science / Ecology (or related).2–3+ years experience in wildlife monitoring / research (camera-trap workflows preferred) and data handling.Working knowledge of GIS / analytics (e.g., QGIS / ArcGIS , Excel ; R a plus) and SMART workflows.Meticulous, organised, and data-secure ; good problem-solving and critical thinking.Field-ready : able to trek in forest conditions (≈ 15 kg pack) on multi-day trips as needed.Able to be based in Jerantut , travel to field bases, and meet deadlines under pressure.Bahasa Malaysia required; workable English for partner reporting.Preferred (Nice to Have)
Experience integrating patrol (SMART) and wildlife data into joint analyses / briefs.Familiarity with PantheraIDS / SMART Field Sensors (or similar camera-trap tools).Prior work with government / NGO / university partners; donor / audit-ready documentation.Valid Class D licence; basic field logistics confidence.What We Offer
