Assistant Manager, Packaging Process Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for improving packaging processes, supporting team development, ensuring safety and quality standards, and driving efficiency through Carlsberg Excellence practices and cross-functional collaboration.

People Management

  • Brings in the awareness and develops the understanding of Carlsberg Excellence across all levels of the organisation, ensures everyone knows their role within the team and contributes accordingly.
  • Effectively communicates changes to brewery team and all stakeholders to reduce potential risks, threats or resistance to changes.
  • Builds people capability throughout the organisation, utilising the community to gather momentum and grows individuals.
  • Collaborates with other functions and within supply chain to hold people accountable for delivering improvement.
  • Maintains awareness on a regular basis and improves continuously.
  • Recognises good work within the area.
  • Rigorously follows Health & Safety Environment guidelines, food safety and hygiene standards within the area.
  • Responsible for coordinating technological, material, way of working related change initiatives in the packaging department including training and development.
  • Process Management

  • Uses concepts of cost loss tree and root cause analysis to diagnose issues and quantify / evaluate improvement opportunities.
  • Identifies appropriate internal and external KPI’s to track performance for the area of responsibility.
  • Ensures KPIs meet the agreed definitions and are used to measure results in a timely and consistent manner.
  • Develops plans to take corrective action.
  • Initiates improvements on the workplace organisation to improve labour productivity, safety and hygiene.
  • Participates in developing process sheets and changeover matrices.
  • Defines and maintains the optimum process parameters to ensure maximum efficiency of the equipment and production in accordance with COM standards and technical specifications.
  • Calibrates line measuring systems and establishes process capability parameters.
  • Analyses root causes of process failures, loss of materials and other quality issues, and develops measures to prevent and eliminate them in production.
  • Understands manpower, utilities and consumables loss during start-ups and changeovers; minimises changeovers by optimising run strategy.
  • Understands key packaging material characteristics, specifications and tolerances.
  • Understands food hygiene and safety standards and their impact on machinery and material requirements.
  • Identifies root causes of equipment malfunctions or defects and, if necessary, participates in repair, installation, testing and adjustment of complex parts with maintenance.
  • Develops and supports lines team to create and update Carlsberg Excellence activity boards.
  • Conducts internal meetings aimed at preventing non-conformities and reducing losses.
  • Continuously demonstrates root cause analysis, defines countermeasures and validates their effectiveness within the team.
  • Ensures packaging standards related to the area comply with COM, drives SOP development and process confirmation.
  • Supports collaboration and integration among the Carlsberg Excellence pillars.
  • Performance Management

  • Actively supports defining Carlsberg Excellence focus areas.
  • Leads development of implementation approaches in alignment with site Key Performance Indicators and targets.
  • Supports and, in some cases, owns targets delivery of efficiency and effectiveness by introducing new ways of working.
  • Verifies actual savings meet expectations and deliver expected business benefits for production cost reduction.
  • Requirements

  • Master or Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Mechanical / Chemical / Electrical / Food Technologies).
  • At least 2-3 years of relevant experience in a production environment is advantageous.
  • Experience in statistics and process control tools.
  • Experience in Lean / Continuous Improvement programs.
  • Experience in Process and Organisational Design.
  • Experience in TPM pillars and application of methods and tools.
  • Expected Basic Engineering Competencies

    Mechanics

  • Understands fits and tolerances, welding terminology, and welding technology.
  • Reads and understands production drawings.
  • Can perform tolerance chain and geometrical dimensioning analysis.
  • Understands strength of materials.
  • Hydraulics And Pneumatics

  • Understand pumps, valves, pipes and fittings.
  • Reads hydraulic circuit diagrams.
  • Understands compressed air terminology.
  • Understands pneumatic components, circuit design and troubleshooting, servo-pneumatics.
  • Instrumentation And Measurement

  • Builds process specifications and uses instrumentation to ensure process control, quality and safety standards are met.
  • Electrical And Automation

  • Understand principles of process control and apply them in standard applications, including measurement and control of process; how to select a field instrument including analogue and digital sensors and actuators.
  • Understand motion control principles; servo drives, encoders, distributed intelligence used in filling and packing machines and end-of-line equipment.
  • Understand legislation and international standards concerning machinery safety circuits and apply them in practice.
