Developer - AS400

About the role

We are looking for a skilled AS400 Developer to maintain, enhance, and modernize business-critical applications developed on the IBM i (AS400) platform using RPG, RPGLE, CL, and managed through ALDON (or equivalent change management tools). The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on development experience, the ability to understand complex legacy code, and should be capable of delivering enhancements, bug fixes, and change requests with minimal supervision.

Job Requirements.

Ability to develop, debug, and optimize RPG, RPGLE applications, including modular and service programs.

Writing Control Language scripts for batch processing, menu systems, and job control.

File handling, embedded SQL, data manipulation, and performance optimization on DB2 / 400.

Experience in ALDON for source control, promotion, deployment, and rollback management.

WRKJOB, WRKSPLF, DSPMSG, STRDBG, and related system operations on IBM i.

Creating / maintaining technical specs, functional docs, and code review documentation.

Communicating with cross-functional teams and participating in Agile / Waterfall models.

Job Description :

Minimum 4+ years of experience in AS400 development.

Design, code, and test modules using RPG, RPGLE, CLP, and embedded SQL on the AS400 platform.

Work on business-driven application enhancements, scope analysis, and effort estimation.

Analyze and debug legacy RPG / CL code and rewrite or modernize as required.

Query and manipulate DB2 / 400 data structures, perform file-level changes, and write embedded SQL logic.

Use ALDON (or equivalent) for version control, impact analysis, and promotion of code to higher environments.

Perform unit and integration testing; fix bugs and regression issues identified during QA / UAT.

Update technical specs, program flowcharts, and process documentation.

Collaborate with QA, business analysts, and L3 support for defect triage and testing assistance.
