Senior Executive, Legal & Compliance (Compliance & Land)
Gas Malaysia Berhad is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented legal professional to join our Group Legal & Compliance team under the Compliance & Land section. This role is instrumental in supporting the Group’s compliance with regulatory and licensing requirements, managing Third-Party Access implementation, land transactions, and ensuring adherence to laws relating to PDPA and Intellectual Property. The position provides exposure to regulatory engagement, contract negotiations, and advisory work, contributing directly to the Group’s governance and operational compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Advise on laws (Gas Supply Act 1993, Gas Supply Regulations, Relevant Codes) and regulatory documents (Access Arrangement, Gas Connection Manual, Gas Distribution Agreement).
Guide business units on regulatory documents and their implementation.Advise on compliance measures for changes in laws and regulations.Liaise with Suruhanjaya Tenaga on regulatory documents and issues arising from TPA implementation.Study access arrangements from other jurisdictions for effective TPA implementation.Regulatory & Compliance – GMD Distribution LicenseEnsure compliance with GMD’s Distribution License.
Prepare compliance checklists and coordinate with business units.Advise business units on licensing requirements and address issues.Regulatory & Compliance – GMES Shipping LicenseEnsure compliance with GMES’ Shipping License.
Prepare compliance checklists and coordinate with business units.Advise business units on licensing issues and liaise with Suruhanjaya Tenaga.Land MattersAdvise on operational, commercial, legal, and technical risks in land transactions (acquisition, lease, tenancy, wayleave).
Draft, review, and negotiate terms and agreements.Support completion of land transactions.Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA)Monitor and manage compliance with PDPA requirements under the regulator.
Advise business units on PDPA compliance and related issues.Manage internal documentation and procedures.Liaise with the regulator and external lawyers on PDPA matters.Intellectual Property (IP)Monitor and manage compliance with IP requirements under MyIPO.
Advise business units on IP compliance and related issues.Manage internal documentation and procedures.Liaise with MyIPO and external lawyers on IP matters.Report IP matters to Group General Counsel.GeneralPrepare updates and reports required by the Department, Gas Malaysia and the MMC.
Requirements
LLB (Hons.) from a recognized university with a minimum CGPA of 3.00Called to the Malaysian Bar (minimum 2 years’ practice experience)Experience in handling Third Party Access Documents (such as Access Arrangement and Gas Connection Manual)Experience in negotiating contracts / agreements, managing and engaging regulatorExperience in relevant legal areas particularly in gas industryWell versed in drafting and reviewing letters and legal advice / opinionWell versed in relevant laws particularly in contract laws, land laws, company laws and corporate laws; preferably familiar with Gas Supply Act 1993Strong negotiation, drafting, and legal advisory skillsAble to work independently and handle complex transactions with attention to detailsNotes
