Overview

Our client is a large, diversified conglomerate with a variety of business lines.

Responsibilities

  • A. Strategic Leadership & Advisory

Serve as principal legal adviser to the senior leadership on legal and compliance matters.

  • Provide governance, risk, and compliance guidance to the Board.
  • Align legal strategies with business priorities and ESG commitments.
  • B. Corporate, Commercial & Regulatory Oversight

    • Lead all legal aspects of corporate transactions including M&A, JVs.

  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements (supply contracts, concession frameworks, carbon and community agreements).
  • Oversee litigation, arbitration, and regulatory proceedings with major business impact.
  • Manage disputes involving land, environment, marine insurance, and other legal risks.
  • Engage, supervise, and evaluate external counsel to ensure cost-effective and strategic outcomes.
  • D. Stakeholder & Government Engagement

    • Build strong relationships with regulators, certification bodies, ESG auditors, and government agencies.

  • Lead negotiations with state and federal authorities on forestry, carbon, and community initiatives.
  • Lead and coordinate legal teams.
  • Mentor and develop legal talent to enhance professional capability and efficiency.
  • Establish governance frameworks, SOPs, and compliance systems to strengthen risk management.

    • Requirements

  • LL.B or equivalent; LL.M preferred.
  • Admitted to the Malaysian Bar (or equivalent).
  • 18–25 years PQE with proven in-house legal leadership experience.
  • Experienced in managing multi-jurisdictional teams and advising at Board level.
  • Based in Kuala Lumpur with regular travel.
  • Able to lead both strategic and operational legal matters.
