Overview
Data Center Operations Technician, Data Center Operations – join AWS Infrastructure Services to support the design, planning, delivery, and operation of AWS global infrastructure. You will help keep the cloud running across AWS data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment, while contributing to safety, security, and cost efficiency.
Responsibilities
- On-site management of hardware lifecycle for IT infrastructure including servers, storage, and networking devices, with 24 / 7 operation coverage.
- Maintain high system reliability and availability; meet SLAs for assigned trouble tickets via directed workflows; be the first line for hardware troubleshooting and technical issues.
- Participate in projects to enhance operational efficiencies; share experiences with a global network of technical experts.
- Share knowledge and help train less technical staff on best practices related to service owner issues.
- Contribute to building a strong team by participating in Amazon hiring processes and candidate interviews.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and change management activities in Data Center operations; monitor data center infrastructure and participate in site management to keep areas organized.
- Contribute to documentation on technical issues via root cause analysis and participate in process improvement initiatives relevant to the data center environment.
- Participate in team meetings for metric analysis and to discuss daily / weekly goals.
- On-call duties as required; cover 24x7 shift rotation and respond to issues in a timely manner.
Day-in-the-life (example activities)
Support DC infrastructure equipment (racks, servers, networking devices, hardware components, cables).Follow ticket-based instructions to resolve problems and perform routine hardware operations such as rack installs, server break / fix, and rack decom.Troubleshoot and solve problems; maintain tidiness in operation areas; participate in on-call duties and scheduled maintenance.Show strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving.Support site management and ensure 24x7 shift coverage.Qualifications
Basic qualifications
5+ years of hands-on experience with server hardware and network fiber components.Experience in network troubleshooting, optical fiber cabling, switches and routers.Ability to act as escalation point and communicate effectively.Preferred qualifications
Linux certification and / or administration experience (RHCSA / RHCE, LPIC, Linux+).Networking certifications (CCENT / CCNA, Network+).Scripting skills (e.g., Python, Ruby, Perl, Bash).Server+, A+, CompTIA certifications.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
