The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions, including heating and cooling, power supply, generators, UPS, electrical distribution and monitoring systems. You regularly inspect, maintain and repair data center systems such as piping and electrical or mechanical components.
As an advocate for best practices, you develop approaches to reduce operational costs while improving data center efficiency. You ensure environmental and safety standards are met, identify problems and make repairs quickly. In emergencies, you manage performance issues to minimize recovery time.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage Data Center electrical systems, including medium and low voltage, ensuring uptime through maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, repair, and execution of operational procedures.
- Conduct root cause analysis for service failures, implement recovery and prevention actions, and drive improvements in site Water Usage Effectiveness and Power Usage Effectiveness.
- Lead and support startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment, coordinating vendor support and participating in system design reviews for new projects and modifications.
- Ensure compliance with site environmental health and safety policies and legal requirements, and provide training to the team.
- Maintain operational availability by working 12-hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Minimum qualifications
Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.5 years of electrical experience (e.g., electrical testing equipment or electrical distribution) in an industrial or commercial environment.Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying, or moving up to 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment, and use safety equipment such as safety harnesses, ladders, and PPE per safety and ergonomic guidelines.Ability to work non-standard hours and rotations / shifts.Preferred qualifications
5 years of experience in maintenance of electrical distribution systems or in a construction / technical environment, or a related field.Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.Knowledge of electrical systems in data centers (e.g., feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS, ATS / STS, PDU / PMM).Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting with standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration / diagnostic equipment.Ability to communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrades on data center systems.Google is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and is an affirmative action employer.
