Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and driven Assistant Purchasing Manager to support the Senior Manager of Purchasing in managing procurement, inventory, and logistics operations. The ideal candidate will have deep industry knowledge in fertilisers (both organic and inorganic) and possess strong negotiation, analytical, and leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities
- A. Procurement & Vendor Management
Assist the Senior Manager of Purchasing in all daily procurement operations.
Develop and implement purchasing strategies to achieve cost efficiency and quality standards.Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to obtain competitive pricing, quality, and delivery terms.Establish and maintain strong supplier relationships for reliability and service excellence.Review and approve purchase orders in compliance with budgets and company policies.B. Inventory & Warehouse ManagementMonitor and control inventory levels to prevent stock shortages or overstock situations.
Enforce inventory control procedures and conduct periodic stock audits.Coordinate with Production teams on stock counts, reconciliation, and replenishment.C. Logistics & Distribution ManagementCoordinate with the Shipping Team on incoming purchase shipments.
Liaise with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of raw materials and finished goods.Support the Shipping Team in managing logistics vendors and negotiating competitive freight rates.D. Cost Control & Efficiency ImprovementTrack procurement and logistics expenses, identifying cost-saving and process improvement opportunities.
E. Compliance & DocumentationEnsure adherence to import / export and company compliance regulations.
Oversee preparation and filing of all purchasing and shipping documentation for audits and regulatory checks.F. Reporting & AnalysisProvide management with insights on market trends, pricing, and supply chain risks.
Prepare periodic reports on procurement savings and supplier performance.Job Requirements
Education
Minimum Diploma in Agriculture, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.Candidates without formal qualifications but with at least 5 years of purchasing experience in a fertiliser company are encouraged to apply.Work Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in purchasing for fertiliser products.Strong knowledge of inorganic and organic fertilisers, including granular and water-soluble types.Familiarity with fertiliser raw materials and formulation (water-soluble powder or concentrate) is an added advantage.Skills & Competencies
Excellent negotiation, supplier management, and analytical skills.Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication abilities.Good networking with local and international raw material suppliers is a plus.Personal Attributes
