The Legal Counsel is responsible for the legal aspects of commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution, administrative matters and other legal transactions. This role serves as an advisor to the management of Bumi Armada on corporate governance, strategic, commercial and regulatory direction from a legal perspective and works to ensure that the company’s interest is protected.
Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate and review contracts in multiple jurisdictions, including supporting commercial / project teams with tenders for new business opportunities, upstream agreements and procurement agreements.
- Monitor new laws, rules and regulations affecting the company.
- Advise on legal risks and mitigations.
- Manage external advisers in support of Intellectual Property Portfolio and other legal disputes from time to time.
- Support Operations and Contract Management teams with ongoing contracts as well as Compliance and Sustainability teams, as may be required from time to time.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
Degree in law; admitted Malaysian Bar or admitted / called to the bar in other relevant jurisdiction.8+ years' post qualification experience (private practice and / or in-house).Familiar with the principles of English law.Experienced in corporate & commercial work.Current knowledge of oil / gas / maritime industry desirable, but not essential if can demonstrate a genuine interest in business and a desire to learn / develop.Excellent written English and oral communication skills.Strong team player with ability to work effectively with people at all levels.Strong skills in managing legal services in complex high-profile situations with multiple stakeholders.Proactive and pragmatic / problem solving approach.Bumi Armada Berhad is a global offshore oilfield services provider with a strong presence in over 15 countries with more than 1,500 personnel from over 30 nationalities.
