About the role

Our client, a multinational retail business, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their team in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As a full-time role, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial reporting.

What you'll be doing

Financial Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements, internal controls, and group policies.
  • Oversee timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, tax filings, and audit processes.
  • Strengthen financial governance frameworks to safeguard assets and mitigate risks.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor a team of 6–7 finance professionals across accounting, reporting, and controls.
  • Build a high-performance culture that emphasizes accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop talent pipelines and succession planning within the finance team.

    • Business Partnering

  • Act as a strategic advisor to commercial stakeholders, providing insights to support pricing, contracts, and business growth opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Operations, and Regional leadership to optimize profitability and resource allocation.
  • Deliver impactful financial analysis to influence decision-making and long-term strategy.

    • Process Improvement & Transformation

  • Drive automation and process simplification to enhance reporting efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement best practices across financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting cycles.
  • Champion change management to support the organization's transformation journey.

    • What we're looking for

  • Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, ICAEW, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3–5 years in a Controller or senior finance leadership role.
  • Strong technical expertise in compliance, accounting standards (IFRS / MFRS), and financial governance.
  • Proven experience leading mid-sized teams (6–7) with a track record of developing talent.
  • Strong business acumen with ability to partner cross-functionally and influence stakeholders.
  • Experience in a services, retail or financial institution environment preferred.
