GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Provide strategic leadership and oversee all nursing operations within the healthcare facility to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care while managing and developing the nursing staff.
JOB DESCRIPTIONS
ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT
- Manage and guide as well as promote and monitor the nursing team to ensure high standard of care is delivered in a safe, effective, efficient, and caring manner.
- Organize, direct and coordinate with the other services in the Facility to ensure smooth workflow to always facilitate the continuity of safe and quality patient care; whilst achieving optimal client satisfaction.
- Perform daily unit / ward round to visit each patient in the wards if possible, conducts random night round, continue to monitor progress of patients especially post-operative and critical patients, be informed of potential litigation cases, visit patient regularly following adverse event, evaluate nursing care rendered, advice Unit Manager / Nurse-In-Charge where and when necessary and advise Deputy CNO / NM, unit staff on situational problems encountered on site
- Conduct monthly meetings with the Nursing Management Team to discuss issues or matters pertaining to the operations of the Nursing Services to improve the service delivery and resolve any pertinent issues.
- Attend ward / unit meetings as an advisor to improve the units’ operations / services.
- Present data and analysis of incidents, departure from best practices, clinical indicator, etc. at hospital clinical committee meetings to improve the operations.
- Participate in Heads of Services (HOS) meeting chaired by CEO / GM / OM; working towards achieving the same goal.
- Monitor daily 24 hours nursing report for any significant incidents, follow up / visits the patient, deploys staff to busy units or renders assistance where and when required.
- Submit monthly nursing service reports (Nursing statistics, performances, activities, improvements, and achievement) to Group Chief Nursing Officer, CEO / GM for service updates.
- Monitor, follow-up closely and report verbally any adverse event within 24 hours to KPJ Head Office, Group Chief Nursing Officer, and relevant parties for timely resolutions.
HUMAN RESOURCE AND DEVELOPMENT
Participate in the recruitment, interviews and selection of staff for the nursing service to ensure manpower is being allocated appropriately for optimization of staff’s capability and competency.Review and monitor key orientation programs conducted for new staff to ensure they are well-versed with the policies, SOPs and work requirements.Create and maintain a conducive working environment that encourages quality patient care and patient / staff satisfaction.Provide and participate in continuous nursing education (CNE) programs; ensuring in-service training programs are being organized for nurses to update their knowledge and skills in the current trends of nursing practices as well as acknowledging and motivating Unit Managers and staffs to take up post basic courses, Bachelor / Master programs, etc. for professional growth and career development.Assess and appraise job performances of Nursing Management Team (Deputy CNO / NM, Unit Managers, Nurse Instructors, etc.) for promotion and confirmation of services.Cooperate with Principal and Nurse Lecturers / Instructors of KPJ Healthcare University pertaining to student nurses’ clinical training and monitor to ensure renewal of all annual practicing certificates of trained nurses are being carried out.Organize annual leave plans and duty roster of the nursing management team to ensure optimum staff utilization.Coach, guide and motivate the team to ensure they are engaged to perform their job and able to solve complaints concerning patients, relatives and staff using the appropriate communication channels, as well as monitor and counsel staff with performance issues or violates Hospital Policies and Procedures or not complying with nursing standards and code of ethics before recommending appropriate disciplinary action.POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Review and initiate revision of hospital and nursing policies and procedures when and as necessary.Implement the established Nursing Policies and Procedures and ensure all staff comply to all policies and procedures of the quality and safety systems, e.g. MS ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, Patient Safety Goals and National Nursing Audits, and any other quality system that the hospital subscribes to e.g. Malaysian Hospital Accreditation Standards, Joint Commission International Accreditation Standards HACCP Netherlands, etc.Initiate random / regular audit on adherence and compliance to policies and procedures of the quality and safety systems.FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
Monitor all Unit Managers :Keep accurate records of all equipment, medical supplies and drugs in their respective units.All Biomedical equipment are calibrated and serviced according to the service contract.Follow up with the Unit Managers / Biomedical person in charge on the compliance to the PPM schedule according to the plansCollaborate with the end users i.e., the nurses, consultants and biomedical staff / Pharmacist / Purchasing Officer to prepare the proposal to justify for the purchase of any biomedical equipment / medical & surgical supplies.Collaborate with suppliers / vendors to provide training regarding the use of equipment / medical & surgical supplies.SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES
Promote activities that contribute towards continuous improvement of the nursing service, e.g., Quality Assurance, Infection Control, Fire and Safety program.Advise and facilitate quality initiatives and improvement activities in the Facility.Monitor staffs to ensure adherence to policies and procedures of the quality and safety systems, Baby Friendly Hospital Initiatives, Standard People Practice.Adopt and promote the Patient Safety Goals as safety improvement measures recommended by World Alliance for Patient Safety (2008).Monitor incident reporting, investigation, and root cause analysis are being carried out and corrective / preventive actions initiated.Carry out duties as an employee as stipulated in Occupational Safety and Health Act and Regulations 1994 : To take reasonable care at work for the safety of yourself and other persons, to co-operate with your employer or any other person in the discharge of any duty, to wear or use any protective equipment or clothing provided by the employer and comply with any instruction or measure on occupational safety and health.JOB REQUIREMENTS
