How will you make an impact in this role?
We are hiring a Client Manager to support and grow a portfolio of merchants across the Australian market. This role blends commercial partnership, relationship leadership, and operational excellence. You’ll work closely with business owners and senior stakeholders across diverse industries, helping them understand the value of American Express and shaping how they think about payments, customers, and growth.

Responsibilities
- Manage and deepen relationships within a portfolio of merchants across the Australian market.
- Develop a strong understanding of each merchant’s business model, customer profile, market challenges, and growth opportunities.
- Lead consultative, insight‑driven conversations that influence merchant decision‑making and reinforce the American Express value proposition.
- Identify opportunities to expand card acceptance (in‑store and online) and increase share of wallet.
- Strengthen loyalty by helping merchants enhance customer experience and unlock new commercial value.
- Collaborate closely with Compliance, Risk, Pricing, Operations and Servicing partners to ensure a smooth, responsible, and consistent merchant experience.
- Support enterprise initiatives that enhance governance, regulatory alignment, and responsible account management.
- Use portfolio performance insights and reporting dashboards to prioritize outreach and identify growth or retention opportunities.
- Champion digital tools and streamlined processes that make it easy for merchants to do business with American Express.
- Maintain disciplined pipeline management and ongoing follow‑through on merchant needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent professional experience).3–5 years of experience in account management, business‑to‑business sales, partnerships, customer success or relationship‑focused roles.Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.Comfortable influencing decision makers and navigating commercial discussions.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment with strong follow‑through.Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and Word for analysis and presentation.Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting or operating in the Australian market or other international client portfolios.Understanding of payments, merchant acquiring, digital commerce or financial services.Familiarity with consultative or challenger‑style conversation and sales approaches.Ability to interpret portfolio performance insights and translate data into strategic action.Experience working with or collaborating alongside Marketing, Risk, Compliance, Operational Governance or servicing ecosystems.Confidence engaging with diverse stakeholders across different industry sectors.Why This Role Matters
