The Opportunity (Overview of the role)

The Personal Learning Assistant (PLA) is engaged as an external provider (not employed by the Alice Smith School) and will work under the guidance of the class teacher and Head of Learning Support within an agreed system of supervision. The role is to implement confirmed work programmes with an individual student in and out of the classroom. This may involve detailed and specialist knowledge, assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management / preparation of resources. The primary focus will be to maintain safety, promote independence and keep the student on task.

Responsibilities / Duties

Support student development and promote independence in a safe, secure and challenging environment.

Work closely with the class teacher to modify learning strategies, materials and tasks as needed.

Prepare, plan and manage activities to ensure the student is fully involved.

Promote the policies and ethos of the school, personal and social and promote positive values, attitudes and good pupil behaviour.

Application Process

Applications must be submitted by 31 October. The selection committee will shortlist candidates during the week of 3 November, following the closing date. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted to produce a short video before an offer for a Zoom or on‑campus interview.
