The Gender Specialist will lead gender-transformative programming and evidence-based learning across Women in Global Health (WGH) chapters and programs. Working closely with global and chapter-level teams, the role integrates gender equity and intersectionality into programming, capacity strengthening, research, and advocacy. The specialist will design technical tools to foster inclusive leadership and address systemic gender inequities in health systems. By implementing gender-responsive monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) systems, they will ensure program impact and alignment with donor and organizational priorities. The role also supports resource mobilization, building strategic partnerships, and represents WGH in high-level policy and advocacy spaces to advance gender equity in global health. While this position is fully remote, it involves active participation in scheduled events and meetings that may occur across different time zones.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Design & Technical Leadership

Lead the design and implementation of gender-transformative initiatives across WGH global and chapter programs

  • Provide technical guidance and tools to embed gender equity, intersectionality, and feminist leadership in all programming phases
  • Conduct gender audits and assessments to inform inclusive program development
  • Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)
  • Develop and manage gender-responsive MEL systems, log frames, and theories of change

  • Strengthen the WGH MEL Community of Practice by enhancing its functionality and embedding feminist principles into all monitoring, evaluation, and learning approaches
  • Lead evaluations and synthesize data to inform reporting, storytelling, and adaptive learning
  • Collect, analyze, and synthesize project data, both quantitative and qualitative, to generate evidence for reporting, storytelling, policy development and advocacy
  • Track chapter engagement and gender-transformative actions to guide program strategy and implementation
  • Advocacy & Representation
  • Represent WGH in high-level platforms, policy dialogues, and technical working groups

  • Support chapter advocacy through toolkits, pathways, and campaign strategies aligned with WGH’s global agenda
  • Contribute to policy briefs and amplify grassroots stories through collaboration with communications teams
  • Provide technical input into policy briefs, position statements, and consultations to influence health and gender equity policies in collaboration with communication teams
  • Build / Strengthen the advocacy capacity of WGH chapters through training, mentoring, and peer learning on intersectional, feminist advocacy approaches
  • Collaborate with communications teams to amplify advocacy messages, campaign priorities, and grassroots stories
  • Collaborate with the Advocacy team to monitor advocacy outcomes and impact, and facilitate learning exchange across chapters to improve strategy and influence
  • Strategic Partnerships
  • Serve as a technical focal point to chapters on stakeholder engagement and partnership development

  • Cultivate and strengthen strategic partnerships with donors, UN agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and other key stakeholders to advance shared gender equity goals
  • Represent WGH in partner and network meetings to share learning, amplify WGH’s mission, and expand influence
  • Identify new collaboration opportunities and engage stakeholders that align with WGH’s priorities and values
  • Analyze stakeholder trends to guide engagement strategies and inform organizational positioning
  • Evidence Generation & Knowledge Management
  • Lead the documentation and dissemination of best practices, case studies, and lessons learned from gender-transformative programs

  • Contribute to the development of knowledge products, policy briefs, and learning tools that reflect WGH’s thought leadership in gender and health
  • Facilitate cross-chapter learning exchanges and co-learning opportunities
  • Capacity Strengthening & Alumnae Network Engagement
  • Serve as the focal person to chapters, providing guidance and support where needed

  • Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and learning labs for WGH teams, chapters, and partners on gender transformative leadership, feminist leadership, and intersectionality
  • Mentor and support chapter-based gender focal points or working groups to champion local gender equity initiatives
  • Support and engage the WGH Alumnae Network through mentoring, advocacy, and visibility opportunities
  • Support alumnae-led initiatives, advocacy campaigns, and knowledge-sharing events that align with WGH’s mission
  • Other Duties

    Qualifications & Experience

  • Master's or doctoral degree in gender studies, global health, social sciences, or equivalent discipline
  • Five+ years of progressive responsibility designing and implementing gender-focused initiatives in global health or humanitarian sectors
  • Demonstrated application of feminist methodologies, intersectional frameworks, and human rights principles in program design
  • Technical proficiency in monitoring & evaluation systems, mixed-methods research, and compliance reporting for institutional donors
  • Track record of policy advocacy and multi-stakeholder engagement with governments, NGOs, and grassroots organizations
  • Advanced facilitation competencies with experience convening diverse groups across cultural and linguistic contexts
  • Technical Skills & Language Proficiency

  • Advanced proficiency with collaborative digital tools : Google Workspace, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and project management platforms (Trello, Notion)
  • Expertise in graphic design and visual communication using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong analytical skills with statistical packages (SPSS, Stata) and data visualization tools
  • Field-proven experience with mobile data collection (Kobo Toolbox) and survey platforms (SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics)
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills : Excel (complex data analysis), PowerPoint (executive-level presentations), Word (professional documentation)
  • Expertise in designing and leading interactive online workshops, webinars, and training sessions across multiple time zones
  • Comprehensive MEL system knowledge from data collection to impact reporting
  • Trilingual professional fluency (English, Spanish, Portuguese) with demonstrated success in multicultural environments
