The Speech Therapist will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing evidence-based therapy to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to support the development of their communication, speech, and language skills. The role involves working closely with parents, teachers, and occupational therapists in a multidisciplinary team to create individualised treatment plans that promote functional communication and social interaction.
- Conduct comprehensive speech, language, and communication assessments for children with ASD.
- Identify speech and language disorders, feeding / swallowing difficulties, and social communication challenges.
- Identify communication strengths, needs, and barriers to participation.
- Develop and implement individualised therapy plans tailored to each child’s developmental needs.
- Participate in Individualised Education Plan (IEP) meetings and multidisciplinary case discussions to discuss progress and adjust therapy plans as needed.
- Liaise with all team members and family / guardians to provide a coordinated approach and ensure speech therapy treatment is integrated into student's targets that support learning and skills for daily living.
- Establish realistic goals for students to meet to improve their physical, mental, and social health.
- Deliver one‑on‑one and group therapy sessions using evidence‑based approaches.
- Prepare professional, detailed, and easy‑to‑understand assessment reports for families and relevant stakeholders through the maintenance of accurate records of therapy sessions, progress notes, and treatment plans.
- Provide training and guidance to parents, caregivers, and educators to reinforce therapy goals at home and in the classroom.
