Assistant Professor (DS13) - Department of Library and Information Science at International Islamic University Malaysia

The role involves teaching, curriculum development, research, and student mentorship within the Library and Information Science program.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development : Design and update comprehensive LIS courses that reflect the latest industry trends and academic standards.
  • Teaching Excellence : Deliver engaging lectures, tutorials, and lab sessions across LIS subjects, incorporating cutting-edge technologies and software.
  • Student Assessment : Create and evaluate examinations, assignments, and projects to gauge student knowledge and skills, providing constructive feedback.
  • Research Contribution : Conduct and publish impactful research in the LIS field and supervise student research projects and theses.
  • Professional Development : Stay current with technological advancements and Pedagogical strategies through continued education and active participation in academic communities.
  • Community and Industry Engagement : Collaborate with industry experts to ensure curriculum relevance and foster opportunities for student placements.
  • Mentorship : Offer academic advice and personal mentorship to students, guiding them toward academic and professional success.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field from a recognized university; Doctorate (PhD) and Master’s in Library and Information Science from a recognized university.
  • Malaysian applicants are welcome to apply.
  • A strong foundation and knowledge in computing.
  • Proficiency or specialization in relevant areas and excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong track record of published research and active participation in the academic community.

    • Minimum Competencies

  • A blend of academic qualifications, teaching abilities, research skills, and personal attributes.
  • Prior experience in teaching and research in the higher education sector is an added advantage.

    • Other Requirements

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong foundation in computing, with proficiency in relevant LIS domains.

    • Language Qualifications

  • For Malaysian citizens : Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Government.
  • IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4. Candidates without these qualifications may be required to take the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.
