Delivery Manager role at HSBC Recruitment. HSBC is a global banking and financial services organisation. The role is in the WPB Global Transformation team, focusing on planning, mobilising and directing projects of high complexity and scale from definition to closure.
What you’ll do
Delivery Managers will often have a people / team management role within projects / programmes. As part of the WPB Global Transformation management team, you may have line management responsibility for a group of junior resources. Responsibilities include project delivery as well as people management, performance management, resource management and development for junior Delivery Managers or Business Analysts.
Value Creation
- Plan effectively around delivery constraints to maximise benefits and minimise risk. Develop plans within constraints, including milestones, dependencies, requirements / scope, effort, resources, budgets and quality.
- Manage baselined scope, requirements, benefits, schedule and budget; identify and intervene when there is slippage or variance.
- Plan and analyse costs, track operating and capital spend, and report against the business case.
- Monitor risks / issues / dependencies; assess impact on benefits and take action to minimise impact. Actively remove obstacles and guide stakeholders to risk mitigation and contingency plans.
- Influence and collaborate with stakeholders to drive project outcomes; represent the project team in prioritisation discussions to gain buy-in for risk mitigation.
- Obtain sponsor and stakeholder buy-in to plans and changes; secure sign-off for deliverables and close projects. Capture feedback and learnings to improve methodologies.
- Articulate targeted benefits to stakeholders and share responsibility for benefits realisation.
- Manage the business sponsor to ensure project deliverables are met.
- Plan and manage the implementation of change to realise business benefits and ensure a smooth transition to the target state.
- Work with delivery partners on planning, design and estimating; actively manage dependencies between teams and projects.
- Promote a productive pace, remove barriers to success, and lead by example.
Operational Performance
Produce a well-defined project plan in Clarity, define milestones, and assign responsibilities.Develop a detailed business case with investments, benefits and financial linkages.Familiarity with Wealth Personal Banking Agile ways of working.Develop or review estimates for schedule, effort and cost using established estimation models and best practices.Mobilise the project team and allocate tasks and roles.Provide timely status reports on project progress, risks and issues; evaluate performance against management information.Manage and report project budget and risks; initiate mitigations as needed.Maintain change control and assess impacts of changes to the baseline.Ensure quality assurance and governance processes are followed; drive timely decision making.Collaborate with stakeholders to define project strategy and roadmap within time / resource constraints.Engage sponsors and stakeholders effectively; facilitate Steering Committees as escalation points.Plan and execute regular tollgates per HSBC Change Framework.Direct project approach, staffing and schedule to drive productivity.Capability and People Development
Identify resource requirements and ensure appropriate skill mix; establish effective project teams.Provide induction, clear responsibilities and objectives; give regular feedback and coaching; conduct regular 1 : 1s.Foster a collaborative, professional team environment; promote values and development.Line manage a pool of junior Delivery Managers and Business Analysts, handling performance, resources and development objectives.Drive a performance-management culture to improve efficiency and manage underperformance; promote a positive working environment and engagement.Requirements
Knowledge
Strong understanding of the project lifecycle and HSBC Change Framework; familiarity with Agile ways of working.Knowledge of Global Change Delivery fundamentals and banking / change-driven benefits.Understanding of HSBC / Banking operations and how change delivers value to customers and stakeholders.Experience
Extensive project management experience managing large, complex projects.Strong people management experience and ability to lead multiple work streams.Proven delivery of projects on time and on budget with clear business outcomes; bias toward fast delivery and controlling outcomes.Experience in banking / change projects; strong stakeholder management, governance, change management and benefits realization.Capabilities
Planning and plan management; fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese is preferred due to client interactions.Portfolio definition, process re-engineering, risk / issue management and governance.Global mindset, customer empathy, decision making, commerciality, leadership, business analysis and design.Change and implementation management; financial and budget management; tracking and reporting.Stakeholder management, effective communication, resource and team management, delivery at pace, and adaptability to change.Seniority level
