Position Title : Cashier
Department : Frontline / Checkout
Reports To : Operations Manager
Job Purpose
To ensure smooth, accurate, and efficient customer transactions at the checkout counters while maintaining a high level of service and professionalism. Cashiers are responsible for handling payments, safeguarding the company's cash flow, and delivering positive customer experiences in line with Hanifa’s service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Transaction Management - Operate POS (Point-of-Sale) terminals for cash, debit / credit cards, e-wallets, and voucher payments. Accurately scan items, input prices, and apply discounts or promotions. Issue receipts and ensure every transaction is recorded correctly. Process refunds, exchanges, and voids following company policies. Maintain assigned cash float at the start of the shift. Balance and reconcile till accurately at the end of the shift. Report immediately any cash discrepancies, counterfeit money, or system errors. Ensure the cash drawer remains secured and never left unattended.
- Customer Service - Greet customers politely and handle transactions efficiently. Answer basic customer inquiries and direct them to relevant departments. Handle complaints or escalations at checkout and refer to a supervisor if needed. Maintain queue discipline and manage heavy customer traffic during peak hours. Keep the checkout counter clean, tidy, and well-stocked with bags, receipt rolls, etc. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all cashiering activities. Comply with audit, security, and anti-theft protocols. Support store promotions (e.g., loyalty cards, vouchers, special offers).
- Teamwork & Support - Cooperate with the security team to prevent theft or fraud. Participate in cashier training, SOP refreshers, and audits. Provide feedback to the supervisor on system issues or customer concerns.
Job Requirements
Basic knowledge of mathematics and computer literacy.Pleasant personality with strong customer service skills.Honest, disciplined, and trustworthy in handling cash.Willing to work on shifts, weekends, and public holidays.Prior cashier or retail experience is an advantage.Unlock job insights
