Job Summary – Department Head – Fresh
Responsible for leading and managing the entire fresh section of the supermarket, including Fruits & Vegetables, Meat, Seafood, Chilled and Frozen categories. This role ensures high product quality, compliance with food safety standards, effective team management, and achievement of sales, shrinkage, and customer satisfaction targets.
Key Responsibilities – Fresh
- Supervise all fresh sections : Fruit & Vegetable, Produce, Meat, Seafood, Chilled, and Frozen.
- Conduct daily floor walks to check cleanliness, display quality, and stock availability.
- Oversee section supervisors and their team members.
- Assign tasks, monitor staff productivity, and ensure grooming & discipline standards.
- Conduct random checks on product quality and expiry dates.
- Enforce FIFO (First-In-First-Out) and hygiene SOPs across all fresh sections.
- Handle escalated customer complaints or special requests.
- Ensure friendly and efficient service across all fresh counters.
- Verify temperature logs and proper functioning of equipment.
- Ensure food storage meets safety regulations.
- Review sales and inventory reports to plan stock ordering.
- Work with section supervisors to prevent overstocking or stockouts.
- Prepare weekly schedules and adjust manpower based on traffic and tasks.
- Approve off-days and leave based on operational needs.
- Coordinate with marketing for weekly or seasonal promotions.
- Plan displays and sampling activities with relevant suppliers or vendors.
- Conduct weekly meetings with supervisors and team members.
- Provide updates on SOPs, new products, or customer service improvements.
- Ensure cold rooms, preparation areas, tools, and machinery are clean and operational.
- Lead full stock counts across all fresh departments.
- Investigate and report on shrinkage, spoilage, or missing stock.
- Analyze departmental sales by section (Produce, Meat, etc.).
- Evaluate margins and suggest pricing adjustments or product changes.
- Review the performance of supervisors and team members.
- Recommend training, promotions, or corrective actions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with food safety (HACCP / GMP), cleanliness, and SOPs.
- Maintain all temperature logs, cleaning checklists, and hygiene documents.

Responsible for managing all operations within the department, including stock control, team leadership, merchandising, sales planning, and ensuring excellent customer service. This role ensures alignment with company policies, sales targets, and operational standards for dry grocery and non-food categories.
Key Responsibilities – Grocery & Non-Food
Ensure full stock availability, proper display, and facing.Check that all shelves, gondolas, and end-cap displays are clean and organized.Check that all products are correctly tagged with updated pricing and promotions.Coordinate with the pricing team to fix any discrepancies.Ensure aisles, backroom, and displays are clean, safe, and clutter-free.Review sales reports and stock movement to prepare weekly orders.Prevent overstocking or stockouts through accurate forecasting.Plan and execute weekly promotional displays according to HQ or vendor direction.Ensure timely setup and takedown of promotion materials.Conduct checks to ensure backroom cleanliness, safety, and organization.Report faulty equipment (trolleys, shelf fixtures, label printers) for maintenance.Analyze department sales by category, supplier, and brand.Review profit margins and propose adjustments in pricing or assortment.Lead the monthly stock counts (eggs only) and resolve discrepancies.Review expired, damaged, or lost goods and recommend corrective action.Evaluate vendor performance, delivery issues, and product rotation.Recommend delisting or promotion of SKUs based on sales trends.Qualifications
