Job Summary
The Manager, Business Development Operations plays a critical role in enabling strategic growth across the BD funnel—from origination to execution. This role demands agility, analytical depth, and commercial acumen to support BD Directors and cross‑functional teams across multiple markets. Key responsibilities include leading market analysis to uncover growth opportunities, conducting competitor benchmarking to inform strategic positioning, and preparing commercial partnership briefs that support decision‑making. A strong understanding of the pharmaceutical landscape—including therapeutic areas, regulatory frameworks, pricing strategies, and distribution channels—is essential to drive impactful business development outcomes.
General Responsibilities
- Strategic Market Analysis : Conduct in‑depth market assessments to identify trends, opportunities, and risks across therapeutic areas and geographies.
- Competitor Benchmarking : Analyze competitor strategies, performance, and positioning to inform BD origination and execution.
- Commercial Partnership Briefs : Develop concise, insight‑driven briefs to support partnership discussions and strategic alignment.
- BD Metrics Management : Oversee BD performance metrics, both leading and lagging, to monitor the success of business origination and execution.
- Data‑Driven Insights : Leverage analytics tools to structure and visualize data, generating actionable insights for BD decision‑making.
- BD Funnel Support : Provide end‑to‑end support across the BD lifecycle, including origination, pitch development (presentation deck), and execution.
- Proposal Project Management : Oversee due diligence (DD), Request for Proposal (RFP), review and completion. Adapt proposals based on client feedback to optimize success rates.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration : Serve as the key interface between BD Ops, Country BD teams, and cross‑functional stakeholders to drive aligned, consistent execution. Partner with Commercial, Medical, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to ensure seamless execution and alignment.
- Ad‑Hoc Analytical and Project Support : Provide targeted support on specific tasks such as market analysis, competitor benchmarking, commercial partnership briefs, and other business‑critical deliverables as required.
Functional Skills And Knowledge
Pharma Landscape Expertise – Apply deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry to guide BD strategy, including pricing, tendering, and market access dynamics.Strong capabilities in market analysis and data interpretation, with the ability to generate actionable insights to support business development.Advanced proficiency in Excel and analytics tools to structure, model, and visualize data effectively.Good knowledge of marketing and sales fundamentals, and how they drive growth in a typical pharma commercial environment.Familiarity with Commercial Excellence, Sales Force Effectiveness (SFE), and Medical Affairs, and how these functions contribute to overall business performance.Ability to connect cross‑functional perspectives (sales, marketing, medical, regulatory, supply chain) to provide holistic BD recommendations.Exposure to brand and product management, including pricing strategies, tender processes, and engagement across Healthcare Professional, hospital, and retail / distribution channels.Experience working with or through distributors is a strong advantage.Education
Minimum 5‑7 years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or related industry.Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s Degree (MBA or equivalent) in a related discipline would be preferred.Prior experience in a sales, marketing, or finance role within a pharmaceutical company is required.Exposure to business development, commercial operations, or alliance management is an advantage.Experience collaborating across functions and / or markets to deliver on commercial objectives.Proven track record of working with data and financial metrics to support decision‑making.Seniority level
