R&D Head, Clinical Molecular Diagnostics Eurofins Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Overview We are strengthening and expanding our Molecular Diagnostics development capabilities by creating a new Molecular Diagnostics development center of excellence in Asia. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated candidate to establish this center and manage the day-to-day operations of this new center. In addition, as a Business Unit Manager, you will support the definition and implementation of our long-term global strategy in Molecular Diagnostics, including revision, improvement, and execution of turnaround strategies and the development of a more robust service offering, including OEM products. You will have autonomy over, and accountability for, the performance of the Molecular Diagnostics development center business.
Position & Objectives General Management
Lead according to Eurofins Leadership Charter and act as a role model for leadership and staff. Eurofins leadership principles give a very large degree of autonomy to each Business’ Leader (within agreed upon financial and operational performance measures).
Together with the MDs / presidents of the companies in the business line, establish and communicate a clear vision and culture for the business line. Foster an environment which stimulates open communication, creativity, and imagination, and engenders a team spirit in solving problems and identifying and capturing new business opportunities.
Act as Eurofins representative, a shareholder representative, member of the board or Managing Director (MD) in various holding and / or operating companies of his / her scope. Be interim president of operating companies as and when needed.
Develop with its leadership team strategic plans for each business regarding service and products portfolio, sales, production, consumables sourcing and IT solutions to maximize the profitable growth of all businesses.
Work closely with key functional leaders of businesses on critical business issues such as competitive positioning and competitive strategy; sales force effectiveness; tests portfolio, costs reduction; new business development; and other initiatives to drive increased revenue growth. With the leaders of the companies in his / her scope, create a value proposition that will support revenue growth and increased customer loyalty.
Operations
Accountable for the consolidated P&L.
Support leaders in projects related to the building, commissioning, expansion of new and existing sites as and if agreed with the Group Operating Council. Drive M&A due-diligence initiatives and post-merger integration programs.
Plan, set up, and build a research & development center of excellence with the aim to further develop Eurofins Technologies’ testing portfolio, with a focus on PCR testing
Increase operational effectiveness, productivity, and bottom-line results, by implementing best-in-class processes and metrics.
Define and agree goals and milestones with leaders in your scope, and ensure goals are defined and communicated to their respective teams. Set up customer centric KPIs to monitor progress. Follow up as appropriate and become hands on if required to ensure achievement of goals.
Analyse operating results and their principal components relative to established objectives. Ensure the soundness of the business’ financial structure; take appropriate steps for corrective action as required with the leaders of the companies in his / her scope.
Overall responsibility for quality of services and compliance with all legal and contractual obligations in all businesses of his / her scope. Set up appropriate control mechanisms to detect any relevant deviation.
Interim management for companies without an adequate leader or for specific projects and tasks.
Ensure group systems, policies and processes are adhered to across the business line under his / her responsibility.
People
Motivate, retain, develop, and recruit excellent leaders for each company of his / her scope and ensure they do the same for each of their business units and sub business units.
Implement strong performance management and team development processes along group recommendations and using group goals when available.
Assess current talent and ensure that there is a highly committed and capable management team in place in each company, and that these leaders are coaching and mentoring potential successors and incumbents and / or bringing in additional talent as needed.
Qualifications and Experience Required Experience
In-depth knowledge of the IVD market, specifically PCR and nucleic acid extraction development
Successful organizational change, transformation, and restructuring
Prior exposure to M&A, post-merger integration processes
Prior experience in setting up a research and development laboratory.
Education
MSc or higher in technical, chemical, or mechanical sciences preferred
MBA or similar business education is preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Fluency in English
Development of sales & business strategy
Proven success in a growth-oriented business
Strong experience in identification of merger & acquisition targets, as well as business integration
