Safety and Health Officer (SHO)

Responsibilities

• Ensure all project works are conducted in compliance to the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
• Responsible for all the requirements and documents required by the Occupational Health & Safety Department.
• Have specific knowledge on OSH legislations, occupational risk assessment, preparation of safe operating procedure, monitoring the effectiveness of control measures, encouraging worker’s participation and continuously improving to ensure sustained compliance to OSH law.
• Compile safety programs, practice safe working techniques, implement and maintain health and safety standards.
• Supervises day-to-day activities within a construction workplace.
• Conduct regular inspections to ensure everything is as it should be, including looking for and rectifying any hazards (e.g., unsafe conditions at the construction site).
• Check sub-contractors’ work to ensure compliance with the established act and regulations.
• Ensure workers within the site use proper protective equipment required for each work unit, and ensure they fully understand how to use certain tools and equipment.
• Determine the primary cause(s) of work-related accidents and draw up recommendations to avoid recurrence.
• Arrange training programs on safety measures within the workplace.
• Receive and act on reports regarding safety concerns from workers within the construction site / workplace.
• Introduce measures that help curb accidents within the workplace.
• Ensure there is a safety programme / routine in place so that everyone knows the precautions and actions to take in case of an accident.
• Attend site meetings as required.
• Perform any other related duties assigned from time to time by the management.
