Role Summary
The Assistant Manager of Industrial Relations & Governance will support the management of industrial relations and governance matters within the company. While working closely with the Manager on complex issues, the role will independently handle minor misconduct cases and be expected to step up when required to take on broader responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Manager in advising on employment matters under the Employment Act 1955 and Industrial Relations Act 1967.
- Lead the handling of minor misconduct and disciplinary cases independently, ensuring compliance with due process.
- Assist with conflict resolution, grievance handling, and workplace issues; escalate complex cases as required.
- Support managers in performance management and termination processes.
- Coordinate with HR colleagues to ensure consistent governance and policy application.
- Provide assistance to regional offices, including liaising with external legal firms under guidance.
- Assist in preparing and updating policies, procedures, and governance documents.
- Contribute to knowledge sharing sessions and help organize awareness roadshows on industrial relations and governance.
- Build effective working relationships with employees and managers to support a fair and collaborative workplace.
- Keep up to date with labor law and governance developments and flag key updates to the Manager.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field.Law degree is an advantage.Min 7-8 years of experience in industrial relations, governance.Intermediate knowledge of Malaysian labor laws (Employment Act 1955, Industrial Relations Act 1967) and employee relations practices.Strong communication and problem-solving skills.Ability to handle minor misconduct cases independently with professionalism.Proactive and adaptable, with the capability to take on expanded responsibilities when required.Organized, detail-oriented, and able to maintain confidentiality.
