Overview
Reporting to the Head of Underwriting, the Head of Consumer & Retail Underwriting oversees the management of the Consumer & Retail underwriting portfolio (which includes Motor, PA, Health and Fire). Responsibilities include leading the development and execution of underwriting strategies and driving profitable growth within this underwriting segment. Responsibilities
Implement strategies for Consumer & Retail lines segment to optimize portfolio performance, mitigate risks and drive profitability in line with GEGM objectives Monitor and analyze portfolio performance, key metrics and industry trends to identify opportunities for improvement and growth Provide leadership and guidance to the Consumer & Retail lines underwriting team, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines, policies and regulatory requirements Oversee the underwriting process, reviewing and approving complex risks, and providing technical expertise on the lines underwriting matters Foster a culture of collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and continuous improvement within the team Market Orientation
Identify and evaluate new business opportunities within the lines’ segment, collaborating with Business Units to expand market presence and drive growth Work closely with external producers and internal stakeholders to understand their needs, tailor insurance solutions, and effectively communicate underwriting strategies and value proposition Any other assignments or additional responsibilities assigned by the Head of Underwriting to support the overall goals and objectives of the department and GEGM As part of the leadership team, shape the organisation’s culture and conduct environment aligned to the organisation’s Core Values. Champion culture and conduct behavioural expectations within the team Takes accountability for business and regulatory compliance risks and takes appropriate steps to mitigate the risks Maintains awareness of industry trends on regulatory compliance, emerging threats and technologies to understand the risk and safeguard the company Highlights potential concerns / risks and proactively shares best risk management practices Qualifications & Attributes
Minimum Degree holder and / or CAII / AMII / AAII 8 to 12 years’ experience in underwriting the relevant classes of insurance Knowledge in General insurance, insurance operations, BNM & PIAM regulations, market intelligence and underwriting Leadership, problem solving, interpersonal skills, impact, business expertise, business acumen, underwriting skill and analytical skills Demonstrates alignment with the organisation’s core values through expected behaviours High integrity, accountability, and teamwork Initiative to improve current state and adaptability to change How you succeed
